Question Torque Pro not reading transmission fluid temperature?

I have a 2000 7.3 F-250 with a manual ZF6 transmission. I just installed Torque Pro on my Android phone and plugged up the OBDLink MX bluetooth to the truck.

I am able to view/log everything I want, except for the one thing that I bought the OBD monitor for, the transmission temperature. I have tried all of the transmission fluid temperature (methods 1, 2, 3) PIDs under the Ford Powerstroke listing, and a couple of custom ones I found online, but nothing works.

1st attempt reads 30 degrees and does not change.
PID 221674
min/max 0/250
Equation ((A*256)+B)/8

2nd attempt reads 213 and does not change.
PID 2211bd
min/max 0/250
Equation (((A*256)+B)*-0.0036)+212.98

If you have cracked this problem that I am having, please post the fix action here. Thanks for any help you can provide.

I'm not so sure a manual transmission has a temp sensor . . .

Well that would make sense. I guess maybe I should have done more research before investing in the monitoring tool. At least I was able to clear the CEL on my wives VW Beetle.

Still looking for the definitive answer on this, but at least now I have a bread crumb to follow.

I'll look at the pcm pinout again when I get to my laptop, but I'm pretty sure the pcm doesn't get a trans temp signal from a manual trans.

I would appreciate the help in researching this. I am scouring the internet now for an answer to whether or not the PCM on the ZF6 registers temperature.

I took a look at Rock Auto's website, and they list a temp sensor for the auto, but not the manual . . .

Well shoot, I guess I have a fancy bluetooth CEL tool for general purposes. I was planning on running the gauges via Torque Pro on a regular basis, but feel I have a good hold on everything other than transmission temperature just from the cluster.

Thanks for your help, and now anyone wanting to know if the ZF6 registers temperature, they will probably run across this post and get their answer.

If you want to read the temp on the ZF-6, you have to add your own temperature probe. Ford didn't provide one for us to use.

But since we don't have a torque converter that's slipping or generating heat, it's not really that critical. I've always drained my transmission fluid every 50k miles and it always comes out looking like it did when it went in. No dark colors or burnt smell.

It's gotten my by for the last 500k miles, so I'm not too worried about tranny temps.

There is no temperature sensor in the manual transmission.

I have seen where some ZF6 owners have drilled/tapped a sending unit on the PTO panel, I don't think I am going to go that for with the desire to have the temperature reading. Thanks again for all of the help.

But it's not a straightforward reading. It doesn't work when cold. It has to warm up before it registers a correct number. You're better off just watching EOT.

I have decided that I will use Torque when I am going on long trips of a few hours or more, but for just daily driving to work and what not I won't.

Thanks for the help, I appreciate your time and efforts in order to get me on the right track.

I just started using this today, the app will connect via Bluetooth but will never register to my truck... I wonder if the obd II sensor I picked up is just junk....

You can try clicking here: [LINK]

If the scan is set to auto, it should find the truck - only if the OBDII adapter is wired and configured to read J1850 PWM. This OBDII protocol is on different pins than many of the other protocols - so the adapter has to be hardwired for it.
