Nope. They originally powered 10000lbs frito lay and hosted step vans as well as bobcat track loaders.
This guy is over on 4BTswaps.com . He has since put compound turbos on the truck and LOVES the power it makes. I'm guessing he is in the 300hp / 600ftlb range.

A stock 6BT pre-94 makes 160hp. A stock 7.3IDI is 180hp without a turbo. Yes there are more parts, however once it's in the truck it doesn't matter. The rev range on a 7.3 is more conducive to automotive use, and once you're off idle the NVH is way better than the 6BT. The glow plugs can be a bit finicky, but put in a set of Motorcraft/Beru plugs and you'll be good for years.
Ideally for the 6BT you need a six speed transmission or an extra overdrive on your five speed.

I don't think you could go wrong either way. I would appreciate seeing someone with an old Ford with newer Ford technology over the common Cummins any day. Then again, there's a reason so many people go with Cummins swaps. (It has been done so many times, there is plenty of information on the swap). I have never seen a Power Stroke swap on an old Ford in person, but if I saw an old Ford with a Power Stroke logo on the side, I'd definitely be stopping to take a look.

Not taking away from the 7.3, there great engines. But Ill take the majority vote on the cummins myself. There are a few garage mods to do on both VE and P7100 pumps that will show good power gains. (most of them free) There is an old saying that comes to mind when talking cummins and 7.3 Twice the power for half the money....
