I cut the nose off and put on my f1 fenders shortly after that pic. I've got a radiator for that 8ba too, and some running boards and rear fenders if you need em.

a bit of progress

Although I haven't posted in awhile, I have made some progress.

I went to North Carolina and spent a couple weekends with AXracer. Not knowing how to make patches for these fenders, I took his class last April and went back last weekend to do more work.

First, if you don't know how to do these patches, meeting up with AXracer is definitely worth it. I learned a lot, and although I am far from an expert I think I can now do these patches by myself. I may still go back again for help with finishing the seams, and body filler, etc.

Anyway, here are a few pictures. Patches are tacked in and I need to finish welding.

The Fender had leading in it

Preparing to cut out the bad part

All cut out

We cut the doubler off. Welding in the new doubler

New doubler installed

Starting to make the patch

Bending

More bending

Patch held in place. Scribing a mark in the black area for final trimming

Fits good - time to weld

Tacked in

My son went as well and did some of the welding. This was the primary reason for buying the truck - to expose him to some of this work.

bottom portion of the fender

Here are some pics of the bottom portion of the fender where the running board bolts.

Again, thanks to AXracer for the help.

The damage

Making the tracing to use to make the forms

Making the forms

The patch inside the form

Bending it. The curved portion took more persuading...

Cut slots to get the curve. Will weld these up later.

Using the shrinker to get the bend to fit the panel.

Unfortunately I don't have a picture of the patch tacked in place. I took a bunch of video so I could remember how to do it, but guess I stopped taking pictures.

Too bad you didn't take any stills of the two lower patches tacked in place and showing how we finished the J roll and made new doublers.
As Steve said, he took my workshop last April when we made the patch for the area where the upper and lower sections bolt together. Steve then contacted me and we set up a private 1 on 1 class for him and his son last weekend where we made the two lower sections shown above.

I really don't mean to thread-jack, but I'm in Virginia Beach, about 3.5 hours from you. I'm a little bit interested in these workshops you put on. Do you have a thread or post with some additional info/dates for upcoming workshops?
