New to IDI's
My Name Is Zach and I am new to the IDI's and Forums thanks to a fellow user. I Am from Murfreesboro, TN and I own a 2006 F-150 V6. But I was looking in to a 1985 Ford F-250 with a 6.9 IDI on Craigslist and I was just wondering if it's worth the money for it. Link>> http://clarksville.craigslist.org/cto/4907827572.html . Thanks

Welcome to FTE , the IDI forums and the community
On the main idi page (where the threads are) youll see some stickies up there, read through em as theube got lots of good info, they were well put together and took some time, the stickies taught me a good bit of knowledge about these good ol trucks, everything else was gathered in bits n pieces from various threads, even if the thread doesnt pertain to you, read em, youll learn something new in every thread
Jmmm..... thats all i got for now....
Oh and your welcome for a giving you the idea to join these forums, youll see its worth your while

I wanna say it might have an electrical fuel pump installed (because theres the switch) but if its still the mchanical pump id imagine thatd save you from hving to crank away you batteries and possibly burn up a starter if you happen to get an air intrusion, can any guys with higher knowledge correct or support my educated guess?

I have three rules about buying a vehicle from a private seller.
1.) If it breaks down on the test drive, don't buy it.
2.) Anything the seller claims he doesn't know, he actually knows.
3.) Anything the seller claims he knows is wrong.
My interpretation of that CL ad, is:
You have a 280,000 or 380,000 mile non-turbo non-4wd mutt truck from a rust climate. It probably starts a lot worse than the seller is claiming. It is probably not the GP controller, because if it was something that simple, why didn't he just fix it. It probably has non-Motorcraft GP's, so you'll have to blow $100 just on replacing those. The IP is probably worn, because he already replaced the injectors, so a new IP is at least $500. You'll need new treads on that truck soon, because no one sells a truck with new tires. That's another $500 minimum. My bet the batteries are old too, so that's another $200. His claim about the new steering column might actually be accurate. You could salvage that from a junkyard if you are lucky (these 80's trucks are not prevalent in non-desert area junkyards anymore).
I'd say a tired 6.9 NA IDI in poor shape should sell for about $700. More like $500. I can only imagine what else is wrong with it that he didn't even mention. Please post a video of the blow-by if you test drive it.

Believe it or not i picked this up for $1700. It had a bad rear end (came with replacement for same price) and trans was low on fluid (my fault for not checking after i roasted the input and counter) 155k miles. unsure of IP and injector age though neither are painted gray. cranks right up every time but needs glow plugs, teen temps it doesn't like to start. These guys are right, older trucks will nickle and dime you to death. Had to rebuild the trans, once again my fault. The front calipers would stick, brake pads worn, soft lines rotten, needs new leaf spring hangers, steering box has some slop, had to replace soft line ad wheel cylinders out back, both fuel tanks leak, front sender doesn't work etc, etc. tires were good and its a factory turbo with upgraded downpipe. So i took it on. some days i love it, others i hate it. just so you know what you could be getting into with these things
