remote mounted oil cooler install on a 6.0 Powerstroke
I am sure some of use around the forums have seen some of Diesel Tech Ron's videos, well in this video he is installing one of Bulletproof Diesel's remote Oil Coolers on a 6.0
I like the idea of these if you ever have to do any work on the Oil cooler or replace it it would make it pretty quick and you don't have top spend a day tearing the engine apart
I haven't hear of too many people having issues with remote coolers set up's like this. Maybe there are some remote oil coloer owners that have em that can shed some light on how they have worked so far on their 6.0's

Sounds great until you realize they are $1745, not including the install. I have a great mechanic that will replace my oil cooler with an OEM for $400. I could have it done more than 4 times for that money...

I'm in Oregon. Sorry, I guess "OEM" oil coolers are more expensive than I thought. I believe my mechanic told me $275 for labor plus the cooler. It's not more than a few hours work if you know what you are doing, nobody should charge more than a few hours of labor at a good hourly rate. In most places around the US there is a guy who has practiced this a few times.
Still hard to justify $1745 for an air cooler. I suppose that's probably less than what the dealer would charge for an OEM job. You could possibly put together your own kit cheaper.

Search around for somebody that works on the side...maybe a guy that works at the dealer and wants to make some extra cash after work. My mechanic works at the Ford dealer during the day, and then comes home and works in his own shop at night for way less. It's hard to find somebody you can trust this way, but, there are guys like this all over the country who are well practiced in the common 6.0L issues.
Same guy did my EGR delete in like an hour or two. I was totally impressed but he's done it hundreds of times...

I guess the price is up there cause they know some folks aren't tech savvy or don't want to take half the engine apart to swap the coolers ( just like the ARP studs 500 bucks isn't cheap but they work great... so ARP knows they can charge that for them )
I assume the time in changing a oil cooler that is remote mounted like this is more for convenience and it would take a limited amount of time to change it.
It I guess is a toss up between those that see the expense of one of these systems vs doing the work/getting the work done to get the oil cooler out if it becomes a problem.
Haven't really seen a lot of bad write up's on problems with remote systems, so they must work okay despite the price.
