76 F600 7.3 Powerstroke Conversion?

I know that putting a 7.3 in a light duty dentside is a huge undertaking to get it to fit. My question is would a 7.3 physically fit into a F600 any easier? On the lighter trucks a big issue is having to relocate the crossmember and fabricate a new one. Is this also true on a large truck?

As far I know you need to use the 7.3 gauge cluster since the 7.3 is a highly computer controlled. I looked around and asked on a couple of forums and found no conversion kit for the electronics. Most people go with the Dodge/Cummings swap.

Yeah I know that a Cummins is a much easier swap in the light trucks. I love my 7.3 CC F 350. I have an opportunity to buy a complete running 7.3L donor vehicle pretty cheap.

Conversion is fairly straightforward using a front motor mount from a 6.9/7.3 navstar motor... mounts to the crossmember single mount in front . Early versions didn't need any special dashpod... not sure where you got that

Electronic versions t444e do need all electronics to run...

While the 7.3 is a great motor the 5.9 has been used by ford as well... and would probably be a better upgrade ... used 7.3 s require careful inspection to get a good one and 5.9 s in my opinion are more worthwhile to rebuild and last longer in medium duty applications ... 7.3 buses with 250k are at service lifespan... 1/2 of the Cummins... you'll spend the same..get the better motor for your application
Both have been used for swaps... a quick search
should bring up some threads
Plenty of room for either

I was just going from info from the 99-03 7.3 forum and my exp trying to find a way for the electronics to work for those model years. I agree Cummins would be the best.

Or you could put a 7.3 IDI in it. Early 90's Ford trucks.

I have to disagree about the Cummins being a better engine than the 7.3 PS turbo. I can tell you several examples from very close knowledge that have went 500K with NO major maintenance. I even know of one that went 740K in an Econoline E350. It is the best diesel Ford has ever put in a light duty truck. I know that the earlier 7.3 don't require al the electronics BUT they have no turbo and don't have near the power.
I have owned two later 7.3 Powerstroke turbo's and I love them.

How about a 429 industrial gas? That will bolt in and haul ***.

I like the idea of the 7.3 turbo in there however. That would be sweet. A 5.9 would be a dog. Since none of the cross-members are welded on the f600, you can grind off some rivets and change some things around if you had to. The f600 engine cross-member is under the front of the engine timing cover. There is exactly 3" more under hood clearance on an f600 than a light truck, and have the same front-to-back space.

My 1960 ford with the 429/5speed/double frame/two speed rear will Blow the doors off any 5.9 powered rig the same weight.

this was what attracted attention

F450 chassis with a dana 60 front axle

7.3 powerstroke should be a nice fit, just need a Navistar donor truck for the chassis parts, and while you are at it................some came with a 7 speed spicer.

have a good friend who has a 1979 F350 cab/front clip on a 1997 F450 rolloff chassis . 7.3 powerstroke Zf5spd. he hauled my Centurion to my new place this summer, man it got a lot of looks and thumbs up.
