53' F600 questions

I bought my F600 for $750 I wanted this truck since I was 14 I'm now 22 got a good job and bought my dream it's got a 10 foot dump bed but my cab and front clip are about Swiss cheese. I'm pretty sure my cab is the same as the F100 but I need a hood and my grille is bent and rusted and so is the lower valence I know my fenders are bigger and I'm hearing all kinds of bad things about my 20 inch tube type split rims also brakes what to do about brakes. It came with the R code 239 flathead but now has a locked up 223 missing starter and radiator I would like to put a flathead back in but can't find a rebuildable one for three figures. It has a T98 4 speed and missing the shifter with original 2 speed rear which I think is electric somehow also is it six volt or twelve? I don't know could someone please help my my knowledge is limited but I love this truck and I'm stubborn and don't give up I appreciate any input and your site has helped countless times so thank you

Welcome and congrats on your find! Good to have your young self and your old truck aboard.

I'm not as familiar with the interchangability of the 53s. Certainly, the cabs are the same, and I suspect the hoods as well. We'll let the more informed chime in shortly.

And pics?

Welcome
Truckdog62563 can tell you all about your rims. Just remember Split Rims are not Widow Makers.
53-55 cabs, doors, hoods, grills, valances, inner fenders will all interchange. Fenders are a different story, yours have much larger wheel openings than the smaller F100s.

Sounds like they could be widow makers.
Do a google search and look at the images.
Here's one of many discussions here on FTE https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...uper-easy.html

I'm going to be HONEST and say it like it is, and I mean NO disrespect. It sounds like what you have is a PARTS truck. By the time you purchase all the parts needed to repair the rig you have you would be much further ahead to purchase a rig that is in better condition.
I buy and sell all the time, and the sad thing is I sell parts that came off of rigs that were NICER than the rigs most people are trying to fix up.
For example, this rig on ebay (if you want a larger truck) is priced right and in good solid condition. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ford-Other-Pickups-F500-1955-ford-f-500-truck-/121578895450?forcerrptr=true&hash=item1c4eaab85a&item=121578895450&pt=US_Cars_Trucks It had a buy it now of $2700
What I'm trying to say is you will be miles and dollars ahead if you put up a few dollars to buy a better rig to start with.

Around me f100 cabs and body parts are readily available and I've said before I'm stubborn and don't give up easily and what you don't know is this truck is local history and has done a lot for our community. I can rebuild it we have the technology.

We understand history - It can cause us to make all sorts of unwise economic decisions.

Don't be turned off by posts on here. There's just plenty of us that have spent way too much that we didn't anticipate. Each build is different, has its own uniqueness, and the reason it is being redone. The most important thing is to enjoy your build.

The truck would be 6 volt, unless somebody changed it, and if so, in most cases, all the elec stuff is fried.

Hang in there John. When you go through a lot of build threads on this forum, you will see a lot of builds that started out with there bodies being swiss cheese. But time and tlc, they became a beauty. as far as a flat head engine, keep searching Craig List. Search different areas and states. I know there are a few here in TN and KY. As they said above, the cab, doors, inner fenders are the same as a F100. It takes time, but you can do it.
