hey
the vacuum is hooked up correctly to ported vacuum.
I would replace that hose too.
the meter to use is a multimeter 20.00 for a cheap one set it to ohms its an upside down " u ".
pull the connector from the distributor and put the leads on the purple and orange wires.not the black one.
(I already put the specs in my previous post)
personally I would just get a rebuilt distributor advance has the for like 40.00.
a module is s little less that the whole thing plus you get a new vacuum advance unit.

I'm leaning more towards the ignition. It studders hot and cold. Just at a lower rpm the More gas you give it it goes away. Where should I start timing? Looks like the truck has new dst cap and rotor. New plugs and wires. If my vacume advance was bad on the distributor would it cause this. I know the carb is pulling vacume on it. Because I tested it

Road rash just saw your post thanks for the details that's what I needed. The truck started right up this morning with no starting fluid I retarted the timing a little just by ear and seems to be running better. I will know more the next time I put it on the interstate. I just replaced my exhaust manifold and now it's leaking in between intake and exhaust where they connect. I think it's the new exhaust manifold because one of the bolts won't tighen just keeps spinning. The bolt is NOT broken off. I think the manifold cracked around the threads. Any way thank everyone for your help.

So, you have not verified (or set) the timing with an actual timing light yet?

It won't be the vacuum advance. It can cause a ping if too much advance, or poor mileage if not enough advance. But not this problem.

Set your initial timing at 10 BTDC. That may not be perfect, but is a good start.

Make sure the vacuum advance hose is off and the port is plugged when you set the timing.
