Hoo Boy am I tired...
The 3.55 rear is now under the '87 along with new brake shoes (drum brakes hate me), wheel cylinders, and shocks. No test drive yet as I want to put fresh lube in the pumpkin before taking it out. The only other major job will be to change the power steering pump - its loosing fluid between the pump & the reservoir and sounding pretty bad. Everything is right up on top of the engine so it won't take much to swap out.
I think I'm going to have a bite of dinner and hit the sack...

That is why I mentioned railroad ties. They stack up nice and are for the most part rot proof and cheaper that 6x6 blocks. Yes, but I think you have to change the axle studs or take the duely adapter/2" spacer off the rear hub??
If you leave it on I think you can use it to run the 16.5 military HUMVEE rims with out recentering? "To use H1 rims on a Ford without recentering them, and you want to use them in a stock form, then you need a 76" wms. Stock single wheel rears are in the 67" range. So basically if you have a 60 front you need the dual wheel hubs. If you’ve got a 44 then get the front drw spacers from a 88-up chevy or 94-up dodge.
For the rear get a dual wheel rearend from a pickup. Can’t be from a cab and chassis truck. Those have a 72" wms. Then you can get a 2" spacer. Another option is if you can find a drw 14b or d70 hd from a chevy you can swap the drw hubs for the srw hubs and you’d be set. Have to figure out brakes but with a disc swap it’s not hard".
For the front " I got a set of SD springs from the junk yard and added my bottom stock leaf to them. Had to get me 4" or so. Add-a-leafs will ride terrible. For the rear, just flip the shackle, that will net you around 3" and will sit the truck a little more level. I spent $45 a spring pack for the SD springs, so I had a 4" lift under $100.
Oh, I suggest making some front shackles 1-2" longer than stock, as the SD are around 1" longer, so they could bottom out on the frame. All in all the whole setup should get you 3-5" and a level truck. If the front sits too high you could also get F-350 rear blocks, they are 4" instead of the 2" that are in F-150 and F-250."

Rich, who knows, I may just go with a Dana 44 up front , and a 60 out back unless I find something else in time till then....
Got the super duty springs. They will be delivered this weekend.
Getting a tan 90s ford seat tomorrow. This new truck is going to have a brown / tan interior, like my grandpas was ....so this will go in this explorer. It doesn't have a seat at all, so I'll need a seat frame.
Bandit should have news this week.

Evening friends...
I came home from work and popped open the pumpkin on the new axle under the truck and breathed a huge sigh of relief. Despite the grubby appearance of the axle, I was greeted by a 3.55 geared differential with a nice tooth pattern and no abnormal wear. It didn't even have that nasty used-up gear lube smell. After a good cleaning, its all buttoned up and waiting for fresh lube. If it isn't raining tomorrow night, I'll fill it up and go for a test hop. If it rains, I'll work on replacing the power steering pump since it's under a makeshift awning.

sounds like ya'll are busy..
rich when ya get good at the pot hole repair i may have a job for ya....
all i did today is got the windshield crank out of a 41 chevy truck.. of course i had to pull the dash (a ton of rusty screws) to get it out but thats why they call it work i guess..
my manifold came today and now has me wanting to get that engine together with the 3 duece set-up and other goodies i have been collecting.. should run and sound awesome.... i hope at least!!!!
i picked up a box of new bolts so i can kind of hang the parts on the 48 chebby out in the yard. try to make it resemble a truck then maybe i can find a new home for it... ya'll have a good night..
