FTE resonator
#17
I have the 4" FTE (30" version) with my Magnaflow 4" exhaust. It definitely took the edge off my drone at 17 to 19k RPM but it's still there and gets on my nerves big time. I have the super cab short bed.
Like the other post mentioned, it needs to be up as close to the down pipe as possible. The best I could do was right after the Tranny cross member.
Rich,
Is your resonator right off the down pipe? I can't fit mine right off the DP.
From the hours of reading I have done, it has a lot to do with the length of your tail pipe after the muffler. Soooo, I removed the last part of my tail pipe and added a short 8" piece cut at an angle. It's a short term fix but at least I now have no drone until I can work up a solution. And yes, I live in the salt belt.

Cut me some slack, dude. My camera wore out months ago, and I finally recovered from the one-arm bandits in Reno, the many arms out at Christmas, and Stinky twisting my arm for years.
I just Buck$Zooka blasted at some tech this week, and it included a new camera with HS capability - so I'm back in the game.

Wait for Meeee!
I've been reading and watching.
Just picked up 02 7.3L Excursion Limited last week and looking to upgrade exhaust from factory to 4" but want it with no drone (have Series 44 in my 4Runner= D.R.O.N.E) and very quiet inside.
This is to be our long haul vehicle, camping, etc, so quiet is very good.
Along with it, looking to add Ford AIS, FRx, HPx, and Hydra. Possibly John Wood VB. Maybe even a Wicked Wheel 2 to move boost and torque lower in the RPMs. All things in balance, so I'm listing them
Not looking to mod crazy, just that extra kick in the pants for daily driver, long trips, and towing camper long distances.
I don't want to continue to do exhaust work here in the salt-n-rust state, so stainless for me. Shiny is nice, but I can live with a pretty tailpipe end. LOL.
I was thinking Diamond Eye quiet tone downpipe, FTE resonator, then...??
I would like to buy it within the next 2 weeks.
Any help to avoid throwing away $$ for disappointment would be much appreciated!
Oh- and am I correct, that I *should* be changing to 4" exhaust with these other mods?
I would be satisfied with 1000.0 rwhp, but probably settle for 400 hp. haha

Here's a link to the downpipe. What do you think?
99-02 Ford Powerstroke Downpipe
I haven't climbed into, around, on top of the engine yet. It's quite high and I can't get it in my garage at the moment, so I can't say what it is or isn't yet.

Ah, yes. It isn't the quiet tone. I am new to modding onroad diesels. I'm just getting a sense of the sites and offerings.
Maybe they don't have a quiet tone because of the space?
I thought the quiet tone was just a thicker walled with ceramic coating? Is it that much larger?
(Don't be afraid to set me straight, that's why I'm posting here )

Well, its been a busy couple of weeks but the truck is done and running like a champ!
Here is the resonator. Just got it on today. Doesnt make too much of a noticeable difference
The new S&B intake. HUGE difference with noise. Between it and the resonator, I can mainly just hear the tire noise. Very little drone left at around 80mph
The old transmission ready to be shipped back.
The new JW tranny, snug as a bug.
Truck getting ready for the new cooler.
This thing is HUGE compared to the factory trans cooler!!
So a very busy and EXPENSIVE couple of weeks....... But she's back on the road and better than new!
