Need Help: still no lights and mystery to me

Okay, headlights and taillights are out. Here is what is driving me crazy, and I hope someone with electrical knowledge can fill me in. I have battery power to the connector for the light switch. If I run a jumper wire from the hot pole on the connector to the lights, I have no lights. If I run a jumper wire from the battery to the lights, I have lights (this is how I'm having to drive it right now, with a alligator clip on the battery post).

Is it possible to be getting voltage through the wire to the connector but not enough amperage to power the lights?

Thanks.

Yes. A bad connection will show voltage with no load on the circuit. I'd try to locate a wiring diagram and trace it back towards the battery. Could be where it comes through the firewall or maybe at the starter relay where all the wires hook to the hot terminal there.

Possibly a fuseable link?

Okay, the problem was solved by replacing the fusible link. What was going on, I'm still not sure as the link was showing full battery voltage through it, but it wouldn't power the lights. When I took it off, I stripped the insulation to see if there was any damage or corrosion to it, but it looked perfect. So, problem solved. Cause will remain a mystery.
