1973 F100 starts with remote starter only

My '73 F100,390, 4 speed, two wheel drive, with dura spark ignition, will not start by turning the key, it will start by connecting a remote starter switch to the positive battery terminal and the S terminal of the statrer solenoid. There is 12 volts at the I and S terminals of the solenoid when using the key to crank the engine. There is power to the coil then also.
I recieved a lot of help from this forum when trying to replace the ignition lock in this truck, now I need help again. In 2001 there was an engine compartment fire that burned up the distributor cap and wires plus some of the other wiring. The dura spark was installed after the fire. It seems like then it started with the key,but really didn't start until the key was released, the starter got it turning the key was released and it started so I put in a push button starter switch. Anyway, it now has a new rebuilt distributor, a new switch and a new Duraspark 2 module and it won't start. I don't want to put the push button switch back in. Any help will be appreciated.

What does it do when you attempt to start it with the key? Click, nothing?

What color is the strain relief on the Duraspark control module? Engine crank and no start condition could be the power wires to module. Here is an example of wiring for the blue module. Second diagram is for a green module, "75" only and wired differently.

With the key, it cranks, but does not fire
The module has a blue strain relief, but the colors on the two wire connector are red and white. I understood that the white wire was to retard the spark when starting, and since I don't have that distributor, I have not connected it. The four wire connector is hooked up as shown on the diagram. I have the red wire going to ignition, not to start.
Thanks, this is progress

Grr, don't assume stuff, especially with wiring, I just picked up a 76 f100 with a
wiring "fiasco"...it's definitely frustrating, but it's best to step back, drink a beer,
and start with the basics, diagrams diagrams diagrams, wire it the way it was
intended and supposed to be.

Found the problem. The red wire of the module should go to a point that is hot in start and run. Mine was connected to run, in start there was zero volts.
Thanks to all
