I need to re seal my rear window and looking at LMC for a new gasket there is a different gasket for a factory slider over a standard window. so the question goes, what do I have and how can you tell the difference? what gasket do the aftermarket sliders use if that is what I have?

here are a couple pics, 1 showing the latch on the inside and the other showing the outside.



It's a single latch on the inside with two sliding sections, where the LMC pic shows a single sliding section in the middle but that is just the pic for selling the gasket.

What do I have and what gasket does it need?

That is the factory slider. I see that you have the separate trim in the middle of the seal from the rear view. I am not sure if LMC has that exact replacement. The one they have will not have that extra trim piece, but should work. Sometimes you can get the correct gasket from your local glass shop. Bring the truck with you.

 

I dunno.....I had an aftermarket slider that was EXACTLY like the one in the photo.....I used the "keyed" factory seal with it.

 

Does the glass have CARLITE etched in it? If so, Factory.

 

The window in the photo appears to be factory.

 

Yes the glass has carlite etched into it, so factory it is. LMC showed a gasket for a factory slider but I might check locally also and see what the price would be.

1970/91 F100/350: The factory slider uses a plastic latch that has to be folded over upon itself to latch. This latch has been a notorious POS since day one!

 

Bill - Someone told me that a later slider, with a better lock, could be used in our trucks. Any truth to that?

 

The back glass weather strip w/sliding window is the same 1980/96, thru 1997 on F250 H/D & F350.

 

Factory slider has a glass channel that is very wide to fit the tracks.
Aftermarket slider windows are manufactured with a flange that simulates single glass thickness, and uses the standard gasket.

If you have chrome locking trim, you must use chrome locking trim!
I tried, and failed using a regular gasket.

Yes, C.R. Laurence sells an all metal slider latch that fits and works much better.

That plastic hinge wouldn't stand a chance today.

ETA; that's factory. You can see how the channel fits down into the gasket.

 

Thats what it was here in STL yesterday. But, why would you open the back glass on such a cold day?

 

I leave it open for my dog to guard the tools while I'm in the store.

Seems there's a bunch of thieves in the parking lot of any 'big box'

Makes sense. But, that begs another question - why do you need a lock on the window at all? But, I guess your co-pilot gets to go in sometime, so….
