What cylinder head to use

Hello Y block Experts

I am going to have my 272 bored up to 292 using STD 292 pistons
The cylinder head for this engine is ECK-C

I have another spare worne out 292 engine with ECZ-C heads

Is it best to re-use the ECK-C heads on the new bored engine or do I have to use the ECZ-C heads

Hope I can use the ECK-C heads as they are in the best condition.

Please advice, Thanks

I Thomsen

Based off this chart, Y, I'd use whichever is in best condition.

Some difference there must be. There is a significant difference in size and shape of combustion camber.
The 292 ECK-C heads has larger cambers than the 272 ECZ_C. The valves are of same size.
But if the ECZ-C heads designed for a 272 cui can be used for a 292 cui bore
without problems, I will do that. These heads has afterall been on the engine always.

What I am afraid off is too high compression now I raise the displacement.

Another issue: Can I run unleaded fuel without doing any modification to exh. valve seats .

According to that chart, the compression is pretty close, 8.5 for ECK-C vs 8.4 for ECZ-C on a 292.
ECZ-C were used on 272, 292, and 312. Your compression will be just fine.

You can run unleaded with the stock seats. I wouldn't recommend it for regular use. Since the heads are being reworked, go ahead and take care of that. It's not expensive and you have the heads apart so it only makes sense.

Thanks for advice will keep the original engine and heads in the car where it has always been. A 1956 F100 , though modified to modern gasoline.

According to the same chart, ECK-C is a 292 head. So if the truck was originally equipped with a 272, they are not original.

I'm going to guess that the ECK heads were only used on AUTOMATIC vehicles. Do the ECK heads have the large freeze plugs in the ends? I believe the ECZ-C do not and they look much better in the vehicle too (the ecz-c)
If you buy a DEC 1956 hot rod mag there is a several page write up about how good the ecz_c heads are and how back then they made 300 hp using them.
I prefer the ecz-c heads over any other head even over the G heads

yes, the ECK has freeze plugs in the end, the ECZ has not

The heads on my 1956 F100 original 272 engine correspond to what this list tells. First line for year 1956 a 56 pick up with 272 engine
Y

I am going to use the ECZ heads and keep the ECK for spare
