Just Ordered Banks Intercooler 25970 From RiffRaff

I know I'll probably catch hell for spending so much on an intercooler here, but I'm tired of 1. having high EGT's and most of my throttle range un usable due to high EGT's 2. Having my truck down. I havent even got to see it in 2 weeks much less hear it run. so I'm supposed to be picking it up this saturday from Brian and then sat evening and sunday will hopefully be spent installing this wonderful intercooler kit. I bought the kit because it already has all the brackets for mounting pre made, the pipes are exactly the right length with no modification required and weather its true or not its supposed to flow even better than the other coolers we can use... who knows.... I bought it mostly for the ease of installation and while I love doing mods to my truck. Drilling and cutting on that no longer available for purchase core support kinda bothers me and this also comes with cut and paste templates for exactly how much to take off and where. so as long as I don't forget how to read and use scissors i should be pretty safe there. Ordered from RiffRaff with priority 3 day shipping came to a grand total of 1485$$$ to kansas city. which is cheaper than pretty much any where else i could find it, and the other places didn't include shipping cost and were still more expensive than clay and his included shipping. yet another win for RIFFRAFF DIESEL PERFORMANCE!

I honestly regret not buying a kit when I did mine. Took me so long to source everything between craigslist and junk yards. Felt like I paid that after the amount of wasted time to gather everything.

Yea I'm a much bigger fan of having everything all right there in one box knowing its all complete and if its not then it wasn't me missing something it was the manufacturer and it comes back on them.

Maybe in the future, but 1.5k is money best spend elsewhere on my build! I could always sell everything to somebody else just starting out and make a little bit of that back I guess! I don't think I've seen the banks kit installed on our trucks, it's always been a custom IC.

If the kit was 1k I might do it. Like I said it took so long to source everything, but money was saved. Hardest part for me was getting SD IC pipes.

Aye, the pipes themselves will be the hardest part to come by. But I'll be in CO for a little bit, and there are a few u-pull-it yards that have a few SD 7.3's. They are easier to find than our OBS 7.3's hand down, and should have an easy time picking those up.

It was either that, or using cardboard templates, and then collecting the bends I would need to make them fit. Then making my own pipes.

Yea most everyone else I've seen has built their own kit, not a bad thing to do, I'm not overly enthused about the price I paid for the kit but I know I will be happy with the basically bolt on installation. Convince cost money I suppose. ... sometimes alot of money lol I'll snap some pics aND such of the kit if y'all want

see I had the opposite. I bought the ic, and he threw in both pipes, a bunch of boots, and 10 clamps. All in all I'd say it was 200 bucks well spent.

No shame in buying a banks intercooler kit. They are pricey but are excellent quality, the intercooler is top notch. Some of the other banks stuff isnt so amazing, and please dont put the banks sticker on the side, but their intercoolers have always been awesome. You will like it.

What about using an electric fan to help cool the IC down some more?

I just meant none of the pipes would help much. It issues the itty bitty stock plenums as well.any upgrading makes it mostly wasted. I feel for the direct bolt on aspect but its really only good to a point and then its mostly not used.

So pretty much custom pipes and bigger plenums are needed then?

Yea that is true but that's also true for using a early 99 stock setup ... if you change to a monster turbo and larger intake plenum then your going to have to get different piping as well.

If you don't find pipes, just buy 2-3 3" J bend pipes. Cut to fit and weld up. That's what I did on one of my pipes.
