PCV connection on vac secondary carb

I have got an older Ford 302. It uses a 4bbl Holley 4160 carb with vacuum secondaries. Under the carb it has a "Lester" spacer with a PCV port. Should the spacer be installed to connect to the PCV valve to the carburetor's primaries or its vacuum secondaries?

The spacer probably had the port facing the back of the engine. There would always be vacuum at the spacer, even if it is on the secondary side, as it is under the carb and open to the rest of the manifold. Does that sound right?

Like so:

Never heard the "Lester" term. Silly me.

289 performer and stock spacer/ carb vacuum leak - Ford Mustang Forums

I used to have to use two gaskets on the spacer under the carb to seal up my 2bbl on my 289. The surfaces were imperfect, and two gaskets gave enough material to squish into the imperfections.

I have that spacer but have my power brake booster hooked to it. The 4160 has a port specifically for the PCV to hook to.

Thanks for the replies guys:

To 85e150six4mtod:

Yes sir, I think Lester manufactured these for Ford, as mine has a Lester manufacturing logo in the bottom of it. Somebody on here refered to those as a Lester spacer before, so the name sort of stuck with me. The reason I asked the question is that I read on the 65 and later 289 Hi-Po's they mounted those spacers with the PCV port to the front so it would draw from the primaries. I guess it got me thinking. Under my spacer there is always left over blow by residue that collects there. So I thought maybe if my spacer was re-oriented to the front, where the throttle blades are always active, maybe it would help pull more of that junk into the intake and get it burned off. And my gaskets for that spacer shows the tab side which looks like should be under the PCV port, to be "front".

fgcox1:

That's what I was thinking too. If a guy plugged the PCV spacer port, (or used it for something else like a brake booster,) and used the PCV port on the 4160, it's probably pulling from the front primaries too.

Thanks!
