HiPo cam in efi 302

Ok simple question, will this cam work with the EFI and ECU in my 1989 f150?

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/hr...ford/year/1988

I like the whole 600- 4800 rpm power band as right now 2nd gear has no power until you are going 60.

The motor is bone stock and has been for 170,00 miles, it has been taken good care of. Will it kill my motor and freak my ecu out? Or will it be a good cam?

A camshaft that moves your torque peak up, will make your lack of torque worse.

A set of 3.73 gears would be money better spent.

That cam will work but if your truck can do 60mph in second it needs a gear change more than a cam upgrade.

Does that rule apply for all these trucks with 5.0L?
I can do 75+?

Yes.. although the early trucks(pre '94) will benefit from a cam change too. You can find out what axle gearing your truck has by referencing the axle code found on the drivers door pillar to this table.. Ford Axle Code Chart - Ford Trucks

IMO anything less than 3.55 gears is unacceptable in a truck and if you have a trans with OD then 4.10 should be the minimum.

Yea I have 3.55 and 3 speeds so I really kind of need to high gears. I just see that summit says it wont work with computers, so I would lik to know what are the limits that wont screw with the pcm

That has to be a typo.....that is a relatively mild cam and has a 114 degrees LSA. Very compatible with Speed Density based EFI.

Ok, so what is the deal with LSA? the less it is the harder it is for the computer to compensate?

Correct...the vacuum level at idle starts to get lower and more pulsating with lower LSA. It's not impossible to overcome but it would require a custom tune. Plenty of cams, including this one IMHO, meet the standard criteria for Ford Speed Density based EFI, LSA needs to be 114 or higher. The duration at .050 looks good too.

Cam needs to have 114LSA and less than 210deg intake duration at 0.050" lift to be considered SD EFI friendly. Summit just relists whatever info they find for a part so if something isn't officially listed as being compatible they won't say it is... but that doesn't mean it isn't compatible.
