2009 f150 trailer no brakes and lights
hi ,having issues with the trailer plug on my f150
seems like bad connection because when pulling a flatdeck last week ,only the driverside tail light would work every now and then ,( might've been the trailer too though) so i put on a new plug but still no luck tested it with one of them plug testers with LED lights, but doesn't seem like there's power at all
even though when testing it with a volt meter i got anywhere between 20 and 28 volts
just can't figure out what's wrong with this plug
anyone?

Gerby, I don't know what your mechanical skills are, but 20 to 28 volts not possible and still have truck that runs, you should see no more than 15-15.5 volts tops, make sure your volt meter is set to the correct scale and recheck voltage on the pins, also find the fuse box for the trailer plug and check to make sure fuses are good, hope this helps. one more thing, check with a separate battery your trailer lights with some jumper wires and make sure this is not a trailer problem.

Got the left signal light working and tail lights flicker every 5 seconds
the connector that connects to the main wiring harness had gotten loose
there's no clip/hook so that the male and female connectors stay attached
Is that normal on these connections? Anyone that can confirm that for me?

I have a boat and a pop-up camper; the only time I ever have any trouble is when the ground on the trailer side corrodes or breaks off. The trailer hitch itself is not a clean ground so sometimes it works sometimes it does not (when the trailer ground breaks). This causes the trailer lights to do all sorts of weird things. The connectors on my truck are solidly in place and my trailer-harness (I use the same one on both trailers) plugs right in and stays put. Good luck!
