Takin' the truck out in the snow

Today was the first day since the beginning of January that the temperature rose over 32 degrees - ahhhh, nice to be outside....so I put a booster on the truck battery and fired it up.
Here are some photos taken this morning. I just went back and forth in the driveway because the roads are loaded with a salt slurry today that is like acidic lava to anything made of steel.
As you can see, we have had a bit of snow this season so far. The depth isn't the most I've seen in Maine, but in the 21 years I have lived in this house this is the coldest winter. So many days below zero in the mornings I've lost count.
Anyway...the photos also include a landscape reference so you can see the difference compared to summer. The truck is parked in the same place as the silver S-10.

Oh yeah...my six volt battery was probably pretty flat since it hasn't been fired up in a month so I didn't check the voltage before boosting it. But after letting the truck run at high idle for 15 minutes the battery was 6.62 volts with the engine off. I'm guessing it was charging at over seven volts with the generator doing it's thing.

To you guys in the southwest.....this is what we do to entertain ourselves with our trucks this time of year.

Tom

Beautiful truck. Don't envy you with the snow, that is a lot. I have lived here in TN, for the pass 11 years, this is the coldest winter here, since I have lived here. Snow fall over night, over the pass 11 years would be gone by 10 or 11 o'clock the next day. This snow fall of about 2 inches has hung on for a week and counting. With the snow and cold you have, I guess I should not complain.

Wow, almost forgot what real snow looks like! We've only had a few inches all year. Something about a pretty old truck in the snow.. It looks great! I'm glad you got to drive around, if even for just a little bit.

Thanks Bob, you're going to make it blush and turn it's cheeks red.

Actually that truck wishes it could visit you in Florida until the snow is gone.

Ross, if a fiery comet hit the earth on my front lawn it wouldn't melt all that snow in a weekend. The comet would probably just go 'phhpptttt, burble burble, sssttt' - a little steam and then the wind would cover up the hole with more snow 15 minutes after impact. It wouldn't even make a crater the ground is so frozen. Just be a dirty iceball there in July when I go to mow the lawn for the first time of the season...will have to just mow around it.

Taken last June out in the yard...as much green as I can find in a photo. Hard to believe this picture is taken 25 feet away from where the snow picture was.

I wished it was time to raid some beehives for some honey.

We have only had about 20 inches of snow this past week so we are better than many of you. The minus 4 to minus 15 days have been worse than the snow. The roads are clear enough today for running the truck, but as it was said the salt would be a killer and it is not worth it.

Red truck and white snow looks great, but would rather have red truck and green grass or in my case an old green truck and green grass.

What is it - 24 or 25 days until the calendar says spring?
