49 F-68 Transmission Options?

[/INDENTimage_7a700f6a1e208e88f314e94153e7a47dc7e1d2 99.jpg[/IMG]
I'm just trying to compile some parts to get rid of the widow makers on a 49 F-68. I bought a Dana 60 rearend out of a 71 Ford Camper Special that has 3.54 gears. I also got the rims that were on the truck as well. I would like to get rid of the 4 speed. I was thinking of putting a 3 speed that I have that came out of a 52 F-1. I know that the transmission mounts are different but if I go with something else I have to modify the mount anyways. So my question is will the 3 speed work with the rearend gearing. I don't ever plan on hauling any thing other than groceries or swap meet parts in it. I am just trying to keep costs down and use what I already have. The truck has a Flathead V8. I'm not planning on restoring the truck anytime soon. Just want to be able to drive it the way it is. Disc bakes on the front ,Dana 60 rearend and better transmission. I'm going to put the moter from the red truck into the green one. Any help would be appreciated. , Doug.

This red truck has a good running moter and some good sheet metal but the frame is pooched. Broken and been welded and pieces cut off.

Both of your transmissions have a 1:1 final drive gear, so that won't matter. With the 4 speed, you only use 2-3-4 anyway as the granny 1st is only for pulling stumps, anyway. If you're not doing that, you're losing nothing by swapping to the 3 speed and certainly gaining driveability with the syncro'd gears. Most of the guys here that run the flathead V8 like the 3.50 ratio since it has better top end road manners over the stock 4.56/4.88 ratio, yet is still low enough for the engine torque to do its job.
