Yeah with the oil as black as it was i'm going to change it. my brother seems to think it had about 8000 miles on the oil. Seafoam breaks up deposits and crap in the engine, they'll mix with the good oil and I'll change it once its had a chance to work its magic. its not a big deal our dairy orders oil in 55 gallon drums.

I can't imagine the injector o-rings being that bad in just 60k miles. I would run it another 3000-5000 miles and then pull that fuel filter and look at it. You said the truck sat for quite a while IIRC. Could just be some algae or something from sitting a long time and not being run. Of course I guess sitting a long time and not being run could take it's toll on the o-rings as well. I would still run it through a couple of regular oil changes, or at least one, before I committed to pulling the injectors. Just my 2 cents.

Yeah, I wouldn't jump to do the o-rings either, I'd just keep an eye on the oil level and the color of the filter. It could just be that the filter was badly neglected and hadn't been changed in a long time. The o-rings aren't a huge job, but it will take you some time. It involves removing the valve covers and then pulling all 8 injectors, cleaning out the injector cups, sucking the oil out of the cylinders, and then putting new o-rings on the injectors and putting it all back together. Somebody that has done it before could probably do it in 4 hours or so, but depending on your mechanical aptitude and how comfortable you are under the hood, it could easily take you twice that long if it's your first time.

I say run it, keep an eye on the oil level and the filter and see what happens.

Generally I wouldn't recommend using seafoam in one of these engines since oil is so critical to the operation of the injection system, but since it's already in there and you're only going to run it for 100 miles, I don't see a compelling reason to try and stop you. These engines run really clean inside. If you've never been inside a diesel engine, you'll be really surprised at how much cleaner they are inside than a gas engine is.

I did my research on Seafoam. Some see results, but most of the videos I've seen don't show that it does as advertised. Looking at older diesel remedies of the past, I've seen tranny fluid as an additive to clean the fuel system, but not sure if that's a proven way to work on the PSD or not.

I ran it in my Audi though before a spark plug change, and noticed that my plugs were more burn than usual after a 6k mi change. So I imagine it works better on a gas engine for cleaning up deposits, but so does running a higher octane fuel.

My largest concern was sludge build up from it sitting. The fuel filter had been changed with few miles driven on it, I replaced that myself though it was some time ago because I was still in college at the time. I was actually really surprised how dirty it was considering how many miles it should have had on it. I'll continue to monitor it, and my oil level. I'm sure the worst thing for those o rings was for it to sit and not be lubricated. More so than being driven regularly even on 200k miles.

The oil in your deisel motor is not going to stay that pretty color for very long. I think its a waste of money to change your oil in a week.

Personally due to the huei system I wouldn't run that seafoam in there to long.

The only one I know to run sea foam is William (Talyn). He claimed it was OK.

Was William putting the sea foam in the oil, or in the fuel?

I would think changing the oil in 100 miles was a waste as well, if not for the fact that the seafoam was in there. I probably wouldn't put it in there at all, but I definitely wouldn't want to leave it in there longer than that.

Take a look at both our Stiction Eliminator and Diesel Extreme The Stiction Eliminator was developed to clean out the oil side of the HEUI injectors, and Diesel Extreme is a very strong cleaner for the fuel side. Nothing against Sea Foam, (I used to run it in my old Thunderbird) but both of these products have been designed for the specific application you have there.
