ZF5 into a brick nose dually

K, I need help from the masters. my brother has a '88 CC dually iDI with a bad trans can a '92 zf5 bolt right up?

If they are both 4x4 or both 2wd, and both diesel, yes it will work.

Actually I am pretty sure 92s are electronic speedometer (in the rear end) and 88s are gear driven speedometers (in the transmission).


Hopefully somebody will pitch but I am pretty sure on this.

I thought the Speedo gear was in the tcase

The 4x4 yes but if it is 2wd it doesn't have a tcase.


The OP didn't say weather the truck was 2wd or 4x4 but as far as I know it should be 2wd unless it is a cab and chassis truck.

The '88 is 2wd, but this thread is dead...the wife butcherd it. Maybe we should start a thread on what we think is a great idea and wives mess all up
