Fuse box cigar lighter help
Ok so I have to take a break from getting the horn sorted out for my sanity. But along the way I also replaced the old cigar lighter which had no power which led me to the fuse box. I found all fuses had power except for one. In the picture it's the little clock fuse. It had two connectors one on each end one was cut, the other connects back into the box. I couldn't find power anywhere on it. Do I need to remove the fuse box all together to see what's up? I did connect the lighter it to another fuse and it will work but only with the keys in the on position and I was told it the lighter should always have power. Which would make sense if it ran the clock too. Thanks

I have a '66 with a different fuse box than your '64 has, but this much I can tell you - lighters pull a lot of current. The 1 amp fuse for the clock is not intended to run a lighter also. On the '66, the lighter has a separate 14 amp fuse of it's own. I'm not sure if your lighter should be separately fused, but it wouldn't be a bad idea for you to run your own in-line 14 amp fuse for it. The two 14 amp fuses you have look like they already have plenty to do. Wiring and circuit protection don't seem to have been a high priority for Ford in their mid-60s trucks (or in my early 60s Galaxie either, for that matter). Good luck!

FEW-14429-A .. Lighter Fuse-barrel shaped / Obsolete - Available NOS / Applications: Myriad 1956/72 FoMoCo vehicles.
This cigarette lighter fuse threads into the lighter socket. It's not a glass fuse, so it's not located in the fuse panel.
And, these trucks did not come with clocks!
1961/64 F100/600: Fuse panel located on headlamp switch / 1965/66: Fuse panel located on the firewall.

Bill, I'll bet most don't have any idea what you are referring to about that little reset able fuse that screws to the back of the lighter. Not sure you can even still get them. Does anyone reproduce them I wonder?
I remember a guy I talked with a couple years ago that had 10 or 15 of them setting in a coffee can, thinking they were all bad. Asked why he was keeping them if he thought they were no good - he thought he might be able to fix them some day. He felt a little DAAA, when I showed him the reset hole.

Had no idea they stopped building the reset into the fuse. Cheaper to make I guess. All the ones I have seen, have the hole. I do see a lot of them with NO fuse at all attached to the cigar lighter. Guess after they trip, the owner just throws them away. Guess I should hang on to the three I have on my shelf..
