1997 F250 HD 5.8 351 C or W?

Bought this truck as my weekend driver....can tell that this is not the original motor, but curious to know if it's the Cleveland or Windsor. Any suggestions on how to differentiate the two?

Thanks!

Does it have the stock EFI system? I am pretty sure the Cleveland doesn't work with the windsors efi stuff.

Is it the stock transmission? Cleveland and windsors have different bolt pattern.

Those are the things I would check maybe somebody who knows the Cleveland a bit more will chip in.

You have a windsor

Windsor has the thermostat housing comes straight out the front of the intake

Clevland thermostat come straight up out the top of the block. Cleveland were never offered as truck engines in the US

Brad he specifically states that he is not sure if it is the original engine or not. With so many people doing engine swaps these days (these trucks aren't getting any younger) you have no idea if something like a Cleveland has been swapped in there. Heck I was reading somewhere where the guy is putting a 5.0L modular engine in his OBS.

I HIGHLY doubt someone put a clevland in one of these trucks. No EFI and no trans for it

Although I personally wouldn't do it (I love EFI) if somebody loved the Cleveland enough and thought the F250 could be turned into a race truck or similar with it I could see somebody doing it.

I however do agree with you I doubt anybody did swap it out for a Cleveland especially since the Windsor is such a nice and plentiful engine vs the Cleveland (at least in my area).

great input!

Thanks, Brad and Trav....very helpful inputs, both of you. The EFI is still there...and the transmission is the stock tranny. Moreover, thermostat housing comes straight out the front of the intake. If it quacks like a duck....appreciate the quick feedback!

This one has to be one of the oddest swaps that I have ever seen.
1971 EB EARLY BRONCO not Stroppe or Baja
"They had a 455 Rocket Oldsmobile engine installed with HD springs and dual shocks up front to account for the extra weight."
All this into a '71 Bronco!
So never doubt what could have been swapped into a Ford.
