By all means, if you have some swap meets near you, go. Take a reference book with you to check the part numbers. Never know what you will see.

I'd suggest you start with Survival Motorsports if you are looking after market. I don't think the Summit or Jegs type suppliers know the FE very well.

I think summit and jegs are more for motors like the windsors or chevy small blocks nit fe's... would it be better to but a whole stroker kit or just certain pieces to piece the motor together?

Also where can I get one of the reference books? Online or where at?

Look on Amazon - Steve Christ wrote "Big-Block Ford Engines", which is about the FE family. There are some other reference books and websites that have the details of different part markings so you can identify what you are looking at. I guess I'm old fashioned in that I don't like peering at a phone when I'm out and about. I'd rather pull out a piece of paper.

I'm only 15 and unlike most 15 year Olds of this generation I'd still rather have a piece of paper to... guess I was raised old school... I'll take a look and once I get a little money from scrap I'll get me one of those books

Ok, if you are only 15 you have LOTS of time to go and scavenge parts. Old guys like me have more money than time. Get on out there and see what you can find.

While you are at it, consider a 429 or 460 for that 87.

And go to this link and read most of Barry's book online.

diyfordDOTcomSLASHcategorySLASHford-fe-engines-max-performance/

This site seems to block the address, so I cheated.

Thought about a 460 but never a 429. I have a 360 in the farm truck and thats what made me fall in love with the fe's.. it'll be a while before this motors finished though.. daddy's money doesn't pay for the truck haha

429s and 460s are essentially the same thing. Lots of both out there. Not that I'm talking down the FE.

I know a 460 would practically bolt in since it was offered in the 87 trucks but I'm up for the challenge... I also think it would be pretty neat to have a built up motor in that year truck.. haven't heard of anyone really putting an fe in those trucks.. i believe most go to a 460

Don't you think there might be a reason for that?

Go easy on him, Steve said he's only 15. We don't want to discourage youngsters from our hobby.

On the internet no one knows you are a dog, or a 15 year old! Carry on Steve, and good luck.

At that age I wasted a lot of resources on a build going in completely the wrong direction. I wish someone had guided me better.

What was your build that went in the wrong direction? I understand your just trying to help and I appreciate it but I'm willing to give it a shot and I think I'll try it with this motor even though a 460 would probably be better but the parts truck I'm getting I can get for cheap and then the guy I'm buying it off of I believe has some fe parts lying around so why not give it a try... if I can't do it at least I tried right?
