I have one exactly like it, I think the patina even matches
. I posted on the Early Ford V8 site asking the same questions and never got a definitive answer. A couple said that they had seen them in '42-'47 pickups, but nothing definite.
Still curious in Arkansas, Mark

I looked at my heater like that this morning, it has an aluminum band screwed to the rectangular duct coming out the side. There is remnants of black cardboard stapled to it. I assume that it was a duct that went across the firewall to the drivers side, with maybe vents along the bottom? I would like to see photos of one complete and installed. We will probably use mine in my sons '47 tonner.
