warn parts under oil pan

just bought this motor and it already had the oil pan bolts pulled. I was able to take a peak under the pan and snapped a picture. This looked suspicious to me..any comments from anyone else? The silver part in the picture is rough to the touch like ridges. the picture is taken from back of the motor.

I think your best bet is to get this thing attached to an engine mount and flip her over, remove the oil pan and take some good pics. Post back and some of the experienced motor guys will be able to walk you through checking everything out.

How many miles did they claim it has on it? How does the intake look? Clean or are the Turbo fins damaged/dusted?

May want to consider running a compression test on it while on the stand before you end up installing it. Last thing you want is to install it and start dumping $$$ in it trying to get it to run if it's worn out.

I have some pics of our Ex's motor when on the stand and oil pan removed. I'll dig em up and see if it's the same.

In your post I thought you you were saying you had Winch or hub parts in the pan. I see...............

That's a normal looking milled crank journal. Send the fire trucks home. All's good.

Lol thanks denny....and my spelling error was pretty misleading.

Here are some more pictures from today. I tore all the OBS stuff off for the most part. This thing was out of a plow truck so its covered in scaling. I think i have most of it under control, im just going to need to take my time with the manifold bolts that are all broken. anyone have a good work manual on what size bolts all these holes are...or even just an exploded view with part numbers? I plan on taking parts off my current motor but it would be nice to know for myself and have just in case.

How do the rod and the bottom of the pistons look when u shine a flashlight in there? Pics look pretty good when looking at them on my phone. I'm assuming u will put in a new rear main seal and an oil pick up tube.

Not sure what you meant about the screens being gooey, are you talking about the oil pick up tube?

sorry this is the first time ive been this deep into a 7.3 let alone any motor. im guessing the oil pickup tube is the thing that goes into the pan and has the screen on it?

Also the rear main seal...is that just a pull off and reseal with permatex kinda thing?

Yes, the tube that was sticking down into the pan with the mesh type screen is the oil pick up tube. Make sure you replace the rubber gasket where it mounts inside the block. Riffraff sells them. Might consider replacing the tube as well if it looks banged up.

Yes the rear main seal is the one in the back of the motor, round seal with about 8 or so bolts.

FYI...the rear main on a 7.3 is not your standard knock it in with a hammer deal.
