When we went to disneyland a couple years ago, 1800 miles round trip, we utilized the rack but wrapped up the goods with quality black heavy weight garage / lawn bags. It worked well even thru a little slushy snowy weather.
how do you power them from the trailer hookup wiring? Is there a connector/etc?
I think someone did a write up on it here. I'll have a look for it. I basically just bought a trailer wiring kit and a roll of 12V red LED's I used two lengths one for the running lights and one for the stop/turn signals. If memory serves I used a 40 ohm 1 Watt resistor to dim the running lights.
I can't find a write up on it. I bought the lights in May of 2013 so it should have been in and around that time. I bought 12V IP65 LED's from Ebay cut them to length soldered the connections and added the resistor to dim the running lights. If I happen to find it I will post it up here.
I saw a van with one of these things on it. They must have had all the heavy stuff on one side because it bent down on one side and was grinding away on the road. I was waiting for it to completely break off.
I've used the aluminum one from horrible freight. As is usual with their items the real world rating is half what they claim but otherwise worked well.
I traded for this one, it wouldn't fit on a friends Jeep Liberty- not sure where he got it and never been able to locate one but this one is Excursion sized. Almost lost it to some thieves last summer at our lake cabin when I left it next to the garage but my wife and dogs were there at the time.
