Installed a programmer.....
I have an 02 F350 quad cab 4x4. its got 227xxx miles and had the injectors replaced 6 months ago...all stock, just replaced....what im wondering is this, I installed an Edge Evolution programmer, and the companys claim is that it is built for STOCK vehicles...will running this programmer in any way do more harm than good? I obviously understand that if its in extreme mode and im rollin coal and blowin smoke that its gonna eventualy destroy something but now im over the excitement of my truck blowin smoke and want to know the benefits and or reprecussions of running this programmer....any insight would be greatly appreciated...any negativity about rollin coal or programmers can keep on scrollin because Im not here for that...im here for performance inputs and good info! thanks in advance!

On a stock truck I'd say you're unlikely to do any harm mechanically. The main worry with tunes is too much fueling, or at the wrong time. That can run too hot. Do it long enough and you can melt a hole in a piston. Never used one myself but I read here the Edge tunes are better than their rep, and are conservative to keep the temps safe. The way to measure the temps is an exhaust gas temp (EGT) gauge. If you have an EGT gauge then the tunes can be "hotter" since you can see when it's getting hot and pull your foot out of it. A stock truck does not have an EGT probe so the tunes are designed to keep you out of trouble. If ya like the Edge, run it.
Maybe down the road if you want to do more mods for performance you can go the gauges/chip road with slightly more "custom" tunes. Or go all the way with live tuning of your truck, when the tech sits in the cab and pulls levers and engages giant blade switches and makes it perfect. Plenty of mods just for reliability too. As many have found out, once you get started with the mods it's hard to stop! Powerstroke Mod Syndrome, aka PMS.
This forum is generally oriented toward mild performance and maintenance and repairs, tons of good info and helpful folks here. At least that's my take on it, it's not like I run the place. And also generally speaking blowing smoke is a sign of something not working right, and you're not getting the power you should be getting. And hey, we want the power!

Do you know what kind of injectors were put in the engine? More specifically, are they split shots or single shots? I will assume they are splits based upon your post and that they are the same cc as the originals. That will make a huge difference in whether the tune(s) in the programmer can do what they are supposed to do...

I ran an evolution on my 6.0 for 2 years before I traded it on this 7.3. Is it the 2nd Gen with the dash pod or just the plug and program model? The only squawk I had on the 6.0 was it can be hard on the trans so don't hot rod it too much. Also if it's the 1st Gen without the gauge pod, I would definitely get at least an egt gauge sooner rather than later. If you do ANY towing you'll want one for sure. The advanced timing and added fuel made my egts 200 degrees hotter on the tow tune than stock pulling the same trailer on the same hill. Just be smart and err on the safe side and put a Pyro in it and you should be fine. A good high flowing air filter and a good high flow exhaust will help too.

varminthunter243 I got the one with tht dash pod that has 4 gauge setup on it....I don't have egt sensor ran on it, I keep it on the race tune as that on is supposed to give you the best fuel mileage and power without damaging much, but I was just curious to all of it....its my first diesel, ive worked on them for about ten years between the military and a bus garage but never owned on until now lol

(Get ready for negativity)
I find it funny that people always ask questions AFTER they spend money on something and wonder if it's going to damage stuff or if it will work right.
I'm sorry jeffy, but "Rollin coal" ain't what we do here. We see black smoke as lost power potential, and high egt.
Ready for the good news
Your edge can accept an egt probe. Which will allow you to monitor the most critical of things you should be concerned about. And, if it's like my 6liter one, will defuel the engine when egt gets too high. Great feature.

Don't get too wrapped up in it, Stewart. I've tried to get folks to use the correct nomenclature for years but have just accepted the fact that until the end of time there will be no shortage of folks calling a SuperCab an "x-cab", or "extended cab", or "extra cab", etc. Ford never made any of those quoted cabs either.
It's on par with another brand adopting the "crew cab" designation. Ford is the only company that makes a bonafide "crew cab". The other one is technically a "3+3" but it doesn't sound as cool.
