I think you have a good truck Lee as long as it runs good. My daughter's truck is a 300 5spd and it's a great combo. Value is a subjective thing, if it is worth it to YOU then that is all that matters.

Yes and no. Open diff is going to have a little bit hard time getting traction vs a limited slip (only reason I prefer limited slip).

That truck will do great for all that. I don't think a 300 is much of a race truck anyways (of course I might have a different definition of race truck).

I agree. That is about the only way I would take a 300 and that is with a 5 speed.

The body looks free of rust & dents. Do whatever it takes to keep it that way. I'd say you got a pretty good deal as long as it's mechanically sound. It's true that the inline 6 is reliable & easy to work on. Good thing on a truck like this. Take good care of it & it should serve you well. Oil & filter changes are super-easy - use Motorcraft FL1A oil filter or Napa Silver. Avoid Fram & Microgard oil filters. Congrats on becoming an older body style owner.

Do you have the numbers 1-2-3-4 besides the O or D? Is the O or D in the upper right hand corner on the ****?

Yep you got a five speed.

Either M5OD or ZF5.
I think if you google difference from M5OD and ZF5 you should be able to figure it out which one it is. I believe it has to do with the casings.

The price is decent. I recently picked up an '91 for $1600 for my sis-in-law. Hers has good paint and is an automatic but an OK deal, IMO.

That's what my sis-in-laws truck is, "T=AOD" Code "F=T18" according to my reference, a 4-speed. Maybe someone swapped the ****, or trans, you'll have to decide how many gears it actually has.

My bad. Not sure why I put T an not F like I had meant to.

To the OP. For some reason I can't find the thread that has pics of what I am talking about for you to further understand because I am not the best at explaining things without getting the most technical.

Take a picture underneath behind the engine like getting a lot of the transmission then we can tell you.
