Simple valve cover is killing me...

Hi,
Many of you have been very helpful with my 84 f250 302. So here goes; I got the truck running pretty well in my driveway but I noticed I was spooging a lot of oil out of the valve covers. General wisdom after searching here was to replace them, so I ordered a new set. Now, the passenger side one is kicking my butt trying to put it on. I have the emissions components on one side binding me and the manifold hot air valve catching the flange on the inside. The old one popped off with just a bit of prying, but I cannot get this one on. Is there any trick to this short of removing that hot air valve? Am I the only one who has had trouble with such a simple procedure?
As usual, thanks for your patience.

Are you trying to install the factory covers with new gaskets or aftermarket covers? Aftermarket covers may require modification. It's amazing what the aftermarket sells to fit vehicles and they do not come close to fitting.

Both the original and the new one are fighting me. The old ones looked deformed so I bought these. Drivers side went right on. Its just getting around the pinch point that is killing me.

I would just disconnect the hot air tube from the carburetor.
