It's not a NOX sensor. Its a particulate matter sensor. Or "soot" sensor.

OK.......Teach me.

I would have assumed a Soot Level sensor would be in the DPF....???

So, what is the purpose of adding this 5th sensor to the 2015's....??

Okay - I was told wrong then... Thanks for setting the record straight.. From the outside it looks like any one of the thousands of O2/NOX sensors I've seen on Ford vehicles over the years - so I figured it was good info..

Learning mode ((engaged))...

Too bad Shop manuals are so damn expensive. I used to buy the factory shop manuals for my vehicles......I could work on them faster and with confidence. If I did need to see the dealer, like warranty, I could check if I was being told the truth. 50% of the time....no....

Just like a downstream O2 sensor in a gas job, it's to see if the DPF is doing its job.

We need to get our minds made up here...

It makes very little sense to be sensing Oxygen levels in this part of the exhaust system, although many o2 sensors are now Wideband sensors which may include NOx sensor circuitry... It makes infinitely more sense, in a diesel application where we would be sensing the content of pollutants in the tailpipe post SCR and DPF, to actually be looking at NOx levels..

What is the part number for this sensor we are looking at here, we can actually get to the bottom of this pretty quickly I think...

Thanks!

Or he may have misunderstood mine.. I may not be a current tech diesel wrench, but I am technically competant around engine control systems..
Be that as it may, I am certainly willing to learn, but need more than vague information to make that happen..

It's not an O2 sensor. I was just using the downstream or "catalyst monitor" sensor as an example. It monitors the catalytic converter to see if the converter is working. The "soot" sensor monitors the dpf to see if its doing its job or if it's substrate is cracked. (Ever heard of that?)

Can you grab a part number for this sensor please?

Thanks!
