Timing Adjustment

Can anyone tell me or show me how to adjust the timing on a 87 302? please help

1. Hook a timing light to #1 spark plug wire.
2. Mark the damper at 10 deg BTDC.
3. Remove the SPOUT shorting bar jumper.
4. Loosen the hold down bolt for the distributor.
5. Start the engine
6. Aim the timing light at the timing pointer.
7. Turn the distributor until the mark on the damper lines up with the pointer.
8. Tighten the hold down bolt.
9. Recheck the timing mark.
10. Put the SPOUT Shorting bar back in.
11. Check that the timing has moved.
12. Turn off the engine.
13. Remove the timing light.
