Why not ecoboost in a Superduty?

I have a buddy that likes to bust my chops about his ecoboost and compares it to my 7.3. I KNOW ITS AN IMPRESSIVE 6CYL but not going to do the thing of a 445 ci diesel. Any ideas why they haven't put ecoboost,s in superduties?

Probably because when you put a load on a boosted gasser, it will do a good job, but will burn a LOT of gas while doing it. And that throws all bragging rights about fuel economy out the door!
You can see it in the ecoboost section where people buy an ecoboost, then hook up a trailer and ......YIKES!!! This thing actually burns gas!

Show us an Ecoboosted engine with 250k working miles on it and then we'll talk...
Until then, in my opinion, the Ecoboost is best in light duty weekend warrior trucks only..

BTW, I am not Go-Diesel or Go-Home either...

We had a Cube Van with a 460 in it that dragged our 32' Late Model Racecar trailer around for over 200k before we needed to do the valves.. Two years later it needed to have rings and bearings and a .010" cleanup bore.

It'll happen eventually, but won't be the current ecoboost pickup motor, will be something bigger. Ford is pushing the ecoboost technology in everything, but they are working their way up to the heavy duty applications.

Ecoboost technology meaning twin turbo?

A truck engine should have a cast iron block for strength which i dont think the ecoboost has. And u have to think about putting that engine to a heavy duty transmission first and seeing if it can handle stress that a pickup would put on it

Maybe I'm off base here but I always viewed the ecoboost as being more for light duty applications..

Put ecoboost technology on the 6.2 and see what that puppy would be capable of! But look out for the gas bill when you load it up!

Just was thinking about this thread while I was out in the shop working,..
First off that 250k miles I was talking about earlier, does not have to be in a HD application at all - just pulling its rated capacity for a substantial distance without coming unglued..

If you think about it and looking at the parameter that define Ford's Ecoboost program, the 6.7 Diesel is not far off!!!

Sure it will, it makes a hundred horsepower more. Meaning it will get the same amount of work done faster. That doesn't mean it will last as long doing it.

Not necessarily twin turbos, the smaller engines only have one. EcoBoost is a direct-injected turbocharged engine.

I think Randy and 99150 have the right idea. They're not as efficient when working, and of course the 3.5L engine may not last as long in a heavy duty application. We'll see what the future brings though, I think a direct-injected turbocharged V8 would be a force to be reckoned with in a Super Duty. I would think you'd need it to be large enough to not always require boost to get the truck down the road, otherwise it would be a fuel pig.

Well,
It's really 445.475 cubic inches, but whose really counting? With the new math, you could round up or down in this case.

My snowblower has a bigger engine than that.

how about propane boost. I think it's good for 50 more HP and actually increases MPG.
