Any members of law enforcement in here?

I have a question pertaining to lights. I got an old street hawk light bar to put on my truck. I do non-commercial towing, usually on the side of the road so I figured more flashing lights to ward off other drivers, the better. I was going to have two clear rotators and two amber rotators, but I found the blue and red lenses stashed in the housing. I obviously have no intention of using the blue filters, learned that lesson years ago when I was a teenager. Would it be ok for me to use the red filters though? I would have two red and two amber. I realize things may be different state to state, but thought I would try and get an opinion at least.

Idaho says you can use red on a wrecker, but it's talking about vehicle recovery and blocking lanes. Not sure what "non commercial" towing is. You just towing your own stuff? Read the statutes:

no. Idaho law is blue police, red for fire and wreckers, and amber for snow plows.

Funny how things are different from area to area. Around here it is red and blue for police, red for fire and ambulance. Yellow and red for snow plow and yellow for tow trucks.

here in joisey it was always red for police, ambulance, and firetrucks. blue for volunteer firemen personal vehicle, and amber for wrecker and non emergency vehicles.
we only went to blue and red on police cars in the past 10 years or so.

Well I'm not a wrecker, just my truck and a trailer although I do kind of fall into the wrecker category. Those were good links, thanks for the info. I usually end up recovering vehicles of friends or family, friends of family, co-workers, etc.. I do occasionally have to block a lane. It looks like I might be ok using the red along with the amber. I guess I can give it a try. The police around here are usually pretty cool, I can easily pop the red covers off in 5 minutes if they don't approve.

You could always swing in your local sheriffs dept or if you have a highway patrol HQ near you that would be better. They should be able tell you 100% what is legal.

That's true, although I'm not entirely sure where they are located around here. I may have to investigate.

On another note which I am sure is illegal, I believe this light bar has the device that can change traffic lights for you. I would really like to see if it works, but really don't want to get in trouble though.
