Amp location

2004 F150 FX4. Installing a sub on my truck - need suggestions on amp location. I am thinking of putting it under the dash on the drivers side. It will be behind the brake pedal, but way out of the way - like towards the corner.

Since I cannot add pics, attached is a link.

No way... Don't do that. Put it behind your back seat or under one of your seats.

Any reason why it would be an issue?

The area under backseat will be taken up by sub box. I am not moving the jack from its intended location. Could put it under passenger seat, but would require me to drill a hole to run the wires through. Want to avoid drilling holes.

Good pictures, thanks.

I can understand why you would want to place it here. It's a short run on power and easy to check wiring and settings, but you will lose some leg room.

Main reason, that it is shaped and angled to fit other components on the firewall, it's not a flat mounting spot. You will need to make a flat mounting plate(wood or something) to install correctly.

I (and JShillin)would recommend you install behind the rear bench seat(right side), This is not under the bench seat, it is on the back wall. If you search the forums, you'll find out how to reach that area. On the left side is the computer for the anti-theft(I believe) as the door codes are on the box there. On the right side, you'll have room to mount the Amp. You'll still have to make a mounting plate, but'll be easier than under the dash. You also have extra layer of security, as the back bench doesn't come off quick and easily.

Anyway you mount, your going to have to drill to mount correctly. Measure twice, if you need to, think about the new location for an hour, then measure to be sure.

I hope this helps on your location determination.
