Help this moron out

Okay so I have a 93 F-350 with a 351W. I bought it and tried to drive it home. Like the moron that I am, I forgot to check the oil. I got about 80 miles and it just died. No stuttering, no bucking, no noise, the engine stopped and I costed. I got out checked the oil and found little globules on the dip stick. There was no smoke coming from anywhere of any type. When I crawled under it all I saw was just a hint on oil coming out of the back of the engine. Now there was a check engine light but I figured I would check it when I got it home. The engine sounds like it has compression but I have not tested it. Also I am told the engine only has 10k miles on it but has been sitting for 3 years.

Dose any one have any ideas on what this could be? I am thinking a seal but I don't know which one.

I don't think oil starvation on a gasser will shut the engine down as you described. How low was it? Are you getting fuel and spark?

It was not low on oil just sludge. It appears to be getting both as far as I can tell. It has been really cold here in NY so I have not had a chance to get out there. My current plan is to drop the pan, clean it, add a new gasket, check the plugs, wires, and top off the fluids. I have been debating replacing the oil pump and pickup.

I just think a lubrication problem would have caused the motor to go out with a little more "bump and grind". She would have been ticking, growling, rattling, or some other form of protest, and you wouldn't be cranking her over very easily.

Keep posting with updates. The experts are lurking in the shadows...

I would do what you said your plan was. I bet the oil is gunked up from sitting.

If it is leaking from the rear of the engine I would guess rear main seal but not 100% sure.

Since the truck has been sitting, I would check your fuel delivery and spark. Assume you don't have either until you verify it. You can pull a plug wire and use a spark tester to see if it has spark that is the easiest test so start there. Next if you have spark then get a fuel pressure gauge on it and see if you have the correct fuel pressure.

Just from experience I would lean to loss of fuel pressure, because the truck has been sitting from your previous post. When you let this awesome fuel we have today sit in the tank it does a bunch of weird things. I say this because just yesterday I pulled the fuel pump out of my front tank which has been sitting out of the truck for 6 months (removed before I bought it) and the fuel pump pickup filter was all broken down on the inside and full of gelled filter material. I can only think the pump wouldnt have last longer sucking up that crap.
