2003 F-150 Remote start FOB troubles.
I am the new owner of a 2003 F-150 King Ranch, it only came with one worn out FOB so I purchased a new one from the Ford dealer. They wanted $80 to program it but I found the instructions on this forum. Now here's the dilemma, I programmed the FOB's both by doing the 8 time ignition switch method but then the truck wouldn't respond to the remote start button. So then I programmed it by holding the little button under the dash for 8 sec or so until the horn chirped 3 times then pressing the unlock button.
So now the lock/unlock buttons work and the truck will start with the FOB, but it turns off after a few seconds.
Any ideas?

I started the truck with the key, pushed the starter button on FOB and there was a chirp, removed the key from the ignition hopped out and locked the doors and the truck kept running. I turned the truck off and then tried starting it with the FOB and this time it kept running, I started it with both FOB's and seems to work OK.
I'm a bit confused did I do something when I followed your instructions with starting with the key and then pressing the start button on FOB?

Something in the remote start must tell the vehicle that it "sees" the same "values" as if your key is in the ignition. Some do it with a "key in a box" under the dash, some are built right into the OEM system, some have a module. Yours sounds OEM and when you did that it shows all is reading correctly. Make sure your vehicle battery is in good shape...low voltage can do odd things to that remote start. Be sure the truck is in park and not kind of halfway between P and R. Brake pedal must not stick even a hair. Sounds like all is well though.
