New member, new F150 owner, seeking knowledge.
Good afternoon everyone!
I'm new to Ford ownership, having purchased a 1994 F150 last September. This forum has been worth it's weight in gold already, lurking through Google searches. Now, I've got 2 questions that may already be answered elsewhere, but similar topic threads are messy, so new thread GO!
1) I have the E4OD transmission, and normally, it operates quite well. However, at 45-50mph in 3rd, and 55-60mph in OD, there's a shudder from the trans. A friend told me to drop the pan, drain all the fluid, pour a quart of diesel down the dipstick tube, start and run the engine for 30 seconds (to drain the torque converter?), then new filter/gasket, reassemble, and refill. Does this sound correct?
2) My reverse lamps only light at the VERY end of the reverse "valley". Is there a way to adjust the shifter cable, or do I need to replace the Transmission Range Sensor?
Thanks in advance!

Congrats on becoming a Ford truck owner.
I've heard good things about the Lucas trans stuff as well as Seafoam Trans Tune. My friend's GMC trans was starting to slip, & the shop said it was just wearing out. He replaced a quart of trans fluid with the Seafoam product, & it stopped slipping soon after. He drove it for another 2 years & it was still ok when he sold it.
That being said, I would use those products as a last resort & do what your friend suggested, but skip the diesel.

I'd start with just changing the trans oil first. If that takes care of it then why do anything more.
The Transmission Range sensor should be adjustable. Chock the wheels and set the parking brake, then put the trans in neutral. Look at the range sensor and there should be a match mark on the housing of it as well as the rotating part where the shaft passes thru. Loosen the bolts and tweak the sensor til the marks line up. That is properly calibrated. If you still have a problem after that then it's probably your shift cable out of adjustment.
