AOD Neutral Safety Switch

Has anyone hooked up their neutral safety switch when using the AOD? Is it more of a safety item than a necessity? In other words, if it isn't hooked up today will I not be able to start the truck and drive it? Just trying to see what I have to have at a minimum in order to fire this thing up.

Thanks in advance.

I would hook it up first. The one time you crank it and its in gear will be the one in a million that someone you don't know about is standing in front or behind the truck.

Foot on the brake, trans in park, turn on key, fire it up. Never loan it out. ALWAYS PUT FOOT on brake before starting. DO hook it up before you start driving it or you might forget to. That could be bad.

If your just going to start it and not drive it around just pull the driveshaft. You\re going to have to set the pressure up first or you will cook it if you drive it.

Mine wasn't originally hooked up, but it quickly became a priority as I didn't like the thought of it starting in gear. I don't remember it being a big deal to hook up.

HOOK IT UP! One mistake will ruin your day. It just takes a minute to hook it up.

I don't have the pinout but I do believe that there is also a reverse connection on that plug that is used to activate the backup lights.

Easy to test with just 4 pins. Backup has continuity in reverse only.

I hooked mine up. Just wired it in series with my starter button...easy.

25 years ago, I put a 351W/C6 combo into a '51 F1 Panel and didn't hook up a neutral safety switch. There were a couple of times when I started it in gear accidentally - usually after a stall or when you stop and are just talking to someone for a minute and turn the key off. Easy to forget, actually. The neutral safety switch is a no-brainer on the AOD since it's already there (the C6 would've required I fabricate something).

Not sure what you're asking, mine just screwed into the Tranny.

I'm talking about the switch on the column actuated by the shift leaver that prevents starting outside of park and neutral. (1973 F100)
I've read where a pin is put into the back and the switch is set in place with the transmission in neutral. I tried that but the truck still starts in all gears.
