old locking gas cap, no key

I need to remove an old locking gas cap that came on my truck from the po. He did send keys but, unfortunately, they won't open it. I tried oiling the thing hoping it might be just a bit corroded, but no go.

Before I start taking power tools to it I wonder if anyone has any advice as to how to get this thing off. It's on the aux tank which is full of old gas.

Drill it. Or maybe a big flat screwdriver can get it broken and turned.

Remove it from the hose it is clamped to and then remove it from the truck. Then do whatever in the hell you want to it.

That was going to be my second suggestion. If it's easy to get to the clamps and the filler hose isn't hard as a rock. Otherwise it could turn into a lot more work.

I thought of this, but here's the deal: the gasket has dry rotted in the California desert and, now that it's here in SC, the loads of rain we've had these past weeks have filled the tank with water. The stuff dribbles out when I make a hard right.

Supposedly gas is lighter than water, so I'm trying to avoid a big gas spill in my garage and driveway. My idea is to get the cap off and siphon the gas out into cans and then take them to a recycling center. it's also why I'm a little wary of hacking away at the cap.

Is this a stant cap? Jam a thin standard screwdriver in hard and twist. Takes longer to type than it will to do it.

2x Ted,351,and qman. Even if it don't work then you'd be better off unclamping it and buying a used filler neck in a JY.

CST/Fuel Cap 5091 at AutoZone.com

This is the one I put on the main tank of my '69. Been on for a few years now, no problems with it.

I think my suggestion is still the same. Get under the truck, remove the clamps that hold the the old hose (rubber) that connects the cap to the tank, and then remove the cap and rubber hose from the tank. You can throw these things away and get new ones. Then you can siphon all the gas you want from the tank and do what you want with it.

For gosh sakes, stick a screwdriver in it and bust it loose. No sense doing it the hard way without even trying the easy way first.

Some locks will unlock by placing any key that will go into it an bottom out to the end and then hitting the key hard with a hammer. Strips the tumblers & spring and will unlock.

I have not tried it but it's was on TV news a few yrs ago. May be worth a try.
