Being a Dog lover and a long time owner of German Shepherds, my heart was saddened when I read your post. Im so sorry for your loss, 11 is too young for sure. The pic above is of Jake who is almost 5. My wife still weeps for our last one Bo Bo, which passed at age 17. Im very sorry.

Hey Muppy,
Hang in there! At least you avoided having to put her down - That is just awful. I like that she went peacefully in her sleep.

A nice Valentine's Puppy - just what the doctor ordered. If you are like me you walk through the pound & would take half the dogs there.

After losing Bob and his sister Bonnie within six months of each other I told my wife I would get another "friend" when I was 88 and it had to be a breed with a 25 year life expectancy.
I will pray for peace and comfort for you and your family. The loss of these guys and the impact on us who loved them is very, very real.
Don't hurry to get over her.

Thanks everyone for all your support. I think I might eventually get another dog to replace Sheena but right know I feel that if I did I would end up putting to much pressure on the new dog to be like Sheena and I don't want to do that. Also I feel that I would be trying to erase my memories of her and I definitly don't want that. But the main reason is that I can't imagine having to deal with this much grief again when they eventually pass. (My wife has already been looking at new puppies). And yes we would love to rescue every mistreated dog but that is not possible. So eventually I hope we do get another but right now I will just enjoy my memories of Sheena. Her little buddy Cash has been trying to fill fill some pretty big shoes and make up for Sheena's passing. Yesterday when I came home he was waiting for me when I opened my door on my truck. It made me feel good and helped me a lot. So thanks again for your thoughts and awesome pictures of your pets. Doug.

Very sorry for your loss. Lost my traveling companion a couple of years ago.
You're young enough to get another. Bet if you visit a pound/shelter you'll fall in love with one.

Sorry for your loss. I have been through it several times. Too bad they don't live as long as we do.

Our pets are true members of our families, and the grief is the same. So sorry for your loss.

Well said Ben. I had to put my 14 year old Greman Sheperd down two years ago and I still can't entertain the thought of getting her replaced!

But it does get better as the months roll by.

My condolences to you Muppy. It looks like many of us have been through this, some of us many times. I have found that the saying "Happiness is a warm puppy" is very true and is the best cure for that sadness.
