Getting rid of dome light timer?

I have two 2004 F350s. In both of them, the dome light stays on for roughly 10 seconds after I shut the door, and also comes on when I shut off the engine. I HATE this feature! Is there any way to disable this? All I want is the light to come on when I open the door and go off when I shut it. Nothing else.

I read something about some computer setting on this for police vehicles, but I'm not sure if or how that applies to my 2004.

not sure about your model, but some of the later model vehicles have a "dark mode". If yours has that ability, it has to be set by the dealer via the Ford IDS computer hook up.

I don't really have an answer for you, but I do have a 2007 Crown Vic police interceptor. I can tell you that the dome lights (regular one and "ticket" light) do not come on unless you physically hit a switch. Not sure if that's programmed into the BCM or LCM or if they just omit the door switches.
Maybe this? https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...itch-oops.html

Anybody have any idea how much they would charge for this? Would they even do it if I ask?

Does anybody know where the door switches are? I'm wondering if I can't just rewire them to a relay that just turns the lights off and on. No need to involve a computer with the dome light!

Here are the interior courtesy light wiring diagrams. You might can find a wire to cut and install an on/off switch like they did in the link Poncho450 posted.

Read what they did on the Poncho450 link and see if you can find the same wire in the above wiring diagrams.

I have seen this question come up several times over the years and pretty much every thread has recommended having the dealer set it to dark mode, so I would assume that they would do it for you.

It looks a little convoluted to me too, but I thought he was trying to override the dome light delay.

I also have a P71 with dark mode. This isn't what he's looking for. Dark mode means no lights when doors open (but idiot chime sounds if key is still in ignition, etc).

I feel the same way but not as strongly - especially regarding the bed lights. I haven't looked into it, but I might investigate divorcing the bed lights from the dome and put it on a toggle.

Yep, I need to do that too.

Can anybody tell me where the door switches are at? I don't see anything in the door jamb. I'm thinking I should be able to just cut the factory dome light power wire, and then add a new relay that turns it on which is triggered by the factory door switch. Does that seem like it should work?
