Defrost and Frozen wipers

I've been driving my truck daily and I'm dealing with frozen wipers pretty regularly.
Does the defrost normally thaw the ice off the wipers when they are parked?
Seems like a stupid question but I'm not sure what I need to do.

But I can't seem to get the wipers to thaw out when they get iced.
Maybe my wipers don't park high enough? I'm not sure about that though because they do their job when the rubber makes contact.
I can put it on high and get plenty of air coming out of the heater and
Hot enough that I need to roll a window down to cool off but the dang wipers won't thaw. Everything else is thawed and clear though
I do have a dash cover on and I thought maybe it was hindering the heat to the low part of the windshield but it doesn't seem to matter.
The searching I came up with only gave me the middle strip of the windshield iceing over but I don't have that issue too much.

You will never get the wipers to thaw out with the defrost . Wind chill , they are on the outside , heat on the inside . Try some winter blades . The pivots are covered with a rubber boot . I think they still make them .... I live in TN . , But I sometimes have the same issue . It was worse years ago when I drove a 73 VW Beetle . The defrost was pathetic , good heater though .....

I kind of figured that would be the case but it's my first old vehicle in a long time. Drove a 65 split window bus years back. Heat was about good enough to keep windows clear but other than that, I was wearing overalls.
Had a aux gas heater for it but never installed it. Still sitting on the garage shelf.
My friends 73 beetle was a sweat box though.

Yes , I remember ! My 113 had great heat , my Bus .... None ! It had a bead in back that my girlfriend Loved .... So , heat was a second thought .
Try to find some shielded blades . I just travel 10 miles to work on rural roads , for the most part , I stop if needed to free up the wiper pivots .

wow why didn't I think of that?
Oh because the fluid goes straight up and doesn't touch the wipers when parked or because the wipers are so ice encrusted, they don't touch the fluid.

They do make the blades, I bought a pair yesterday ($9.99 ea.) to help alleviate the same issue. I haven't used them yet but I'll evaluate them when it snows again tonight.

No the fluid flows down the windshield and thaws the ice....

I , myself , understand your point . But I think that the OP's problem is the wiper blade pivots freezing up while driving . Not Ice on the windshield , Ice on the wipers . I see the same thing at times . No amount of freeze proof washer fluid will cure that issue .

If the wipers are frozen in ice and snow at the base of the windshield, the washer nozzles are under that same ice and snow. Those electric heated wipers and fluid are sounding better and better. But they're pricy...might be cheaper just to move.

Dennis

I drove to work yesterday afternoon in a fairly heavy snowfall and my wiper blades stayed clean the entire time. It's a minor miracle to me. I bought the Duralast winter wipers at Autozone. I also noticed that my wipers sit (in the parked position) about 2" from the bottom of the windshield frame. This is more where the defrost air hits it on the inside, maybe that helps a little but the wipers are great.
