f600 cab mount fab.

had to build front cab mount in three sections.

lots of heat and hammering to form it into shape.

took a few minutes to get the welder dialed in.

Are you using flux core or shielding gas? It doesn't look like the weld was being properly shielded, judging by all the oxidation.

+1 on this. I would seriously consider grinding all that out and starting over. Your weld is going to be weak as all get out if you leave it. Looks like you welded with out your shielding gas turned on or not enough cfm.

On a plus note your fix of your cab mount looks great.

I'm not a welder by any means.just learning. I did grind them out. Both of you are right. I sent photos to my brother too, he walked me through settings and they were as they should be. Then asked if there was a breeze?? I had a torpedo heater blowing in my direction, preventing the shielding gas from doing it job. As soon as I moved it my welds improved. I welded on third section of the body mount and the welds are much better. Thanks for the heads up! It would suck to have that fail. I'll get more pictures up of my (better) welds for critique.

I recently stripped out my cab in preparation for paint. I saved and labeled my old harness. I'm looking for a replacement because it's been diced and spliced a lot over the past 36 years. Does anyone know of a replacement for the f600??

Very cool. Glad you fixed it up. FYI almost any breeze will blow the shielding gas out. I usually weld with the garage doors closed if there is any wind blowing. Even though flux core works in the wind it sucks with sheet metal and I hate all the slag.

The Rockwell Twins! Axle rebuild pics

here are some pics of the axle rebuild.

this is a military top loader out of an M35 duece and a 1/2 overall it was in good a shape. came out of a running truck. just cleaned it up and replaced wheel cylinders purchased it from Chris at army 6x6. Great company!

this is the front steering axle out of a donor truck. you can see it in my photo gallery. Its a fdx75 Rockwell.

It appeared to be rebuilt and never used.
fluid was like new along with Greece. We had to fix some damage to the axle end, looked like it broke an axle at some point. Once we did some die grinding we were able to get the axle seal to seat correctly. Hopefully resolving the leaking issue.
sandblasted and etched primed top loader waiting final paint. we also flipped the hubs to help alien the rear wheels with the front. we did this because I'm running single rear wheels

picture of two axles ready to go. heeeeaaavvvvyyy!!!!

Yes, extremely heavy. I didn't take into consideration when starting this project the weight and size of these trucks and there components. Fortunately I was able to obtain a forklift for short money. Parts are definitely hard to come by too. I was able to source a nos wiring harness today. Good news for the 6door!

Just make sure your front and rear gear ratios are the same. Want to see this finished.
