My brother and I talked about that but I always think worst case and was wanting to have a plan B in the event that the original couldn't be repaired.

That is a very nice F5! I bought a radiator for my '49 F4 from LMC. They are made in Thailand, and appears to be well made. They do not have the hump in the bottom of the lower tank for hand crank clearance. Otherwise they are close to stock looking.

About the cable size and 6 volt.

My 54 is still 6 volt and I started it today here in PA where it is about 25 degrees right now. I think it is part of the charm and uniqueness of these old trucks. But as said before, make sure your grounds are rust and paint free.

Cable size: That cable going to your starter solenoid looks like a 12 volt cable bought at a chain store. You need a cable that is 00 size. About the thickness of your other cable. You will have to go to a auto electric shop to get one perhaps. I had new ones built by the guy that rebuilt my generator and starter. While you are at it get new cables to replace the others too. A cable might look good on the outside but inside it could be corroded and thus not able to carry the needed juice. I took my old cable which looked good and cut it and inside was all corroded.

Oh, by the way, you started out on the right foot here.... you showed us lots of pics with your first post!!! Did you get this truck on ebay.... I think I have seen it before or it was a truck that had a similar grain bed,

Nice looking truck. You might want to try U.S. Radiator Corporation in Vernon California for your rad. I bought one for my 51 Mercury M5 through Mid Fifty. I think you can also order directly through them as well.

Thanks for the tip Muppy, I'll check them out. I need to get something done before the weather improves and I need to use the truck.

Welcome from a long lost husker. I went to a welding supply shop and got some 00 cable for my F4 . The 6 volt systems need heavier guage stuff to operate properly. There are quite a few grounding points on these old trucks and each one needs to be clean. Sweet truck by the way.

That looks like a great truck. I had Interstate battery build me new cables. They were very reasonable and custom made them to length.

Welcome to FTE.
Nice looking truck you have there.

Ive got about 7 or 8 extra radiators from 48 to 52 in varying condition. Feo

On my 53 it was overheating no matter what i did.
So i pulled the radiator and had it professionally cleaned for about $60
That and installed thermastats now it runs right at 190. Yes i used 190 t-stats.

Exceptional F5

Welcome, that's one nice clean original truck you have there! I' m always amazed when I see a 65 year old truck that's been kept in such good shape unrestored. Hope it provides you many years of faithful service.
