Spent part of my afternoon getting the oil changed and tires rotated on Shari's 08 Escape. The thing just hit 55k on the clock. And anybody know me know's I'm basically **** about how I try to take care of stuff, everything, vehicles, guitars, tool's etc.
This "Kid" wanted to show me things that he thought needed to be done to the Escape. Both front struts, both rear shocks, front brakes, tranny service, air filter, rear wiper blade, fuel system cleaned. And a whopping estimate of $1,752.65
So it was time to go to school. When we went to look at the car, he couldn't explain to me why, these things needed to be done. But just the age of the car.
Font struts, and rear shocks are clean and dry, no abnormal tire wear Front brake pads are still 1/4" thick, on bonded pads, Ford had already serviced the tranny. I actually think for the most part the fuel we use is really good stuff (Unless you get a tank of water like Alan did at Plaza Gas in Ozark) and I religiously run a fuel additive in the car and my truck with every season change. (told ya' I'm ****)
Now it did need that Air filter, but not for $24.99, I got a Wix for $15, and it did need that rear wiper blade, (better sit down) but not for $47.99 for a 12" wiper blade got it for $12.
What shop was this, well it rhymes with "My Your Stoned" I worked at one for 6 months, the way they push for sales had a lot to do with me leaving.

That's some of my ranting, think I'm gonna pop some tops until I can't type gooder.

Y'all behave

Unk Bob

Woo Hoo!!

I just got home. Chris and I knocked out the engine in EQ. It now runs like it should. All I have to do is make it stop now and put the t-case mount in. ...oh, and fix and paint the roof. THEN it's done. I'm getting excited about it again. I even fixed the last bit of wiring that it needed before Chris showed up.

Oh, here's a story. The battery was dead. I bought it at Wal Mart 16 months ago. I tried to charge it. After 2 hours on a 40 amp charge, it wouldn't even engage the starter. I load tested it. (after the two hours charge) 8 volts with a load of around 6 volts. It was dead! So I take it to Wal Mart. They say, we have to test it. Ok fine. So she gets out a little hand held load tester. It's bad. I say, "I know, I already charged it for two hours and load tested it. I know it's bad." ....well, we have to put it on another tester. It could take up to an hour. REALLY??? The sucker is dead as a doornail. I could give a crap about a new battery, I just want my truck to start. So they put it on the "big tester". 10 minutes later they finally agree the battery is junk. ...DAMN!

Well we went to Spg met the step daughter and grandson, ate lunch at Steak and Shake (his call of course), then met a real live Ronald McDonald in costume at where else, but MCDonalds. He read it on the McD sign....go figure.

Then took him and his mom shopping, then we took him north for the weekend to monday. Helped the bro inlaw feed round bales to the cows, Zach run the Deweze control.

Hand feed the donkeys carrots, baseball, hide and seek, Bronco ride tomorrow...........I am tired.

RC. Don't give it a second thought. I was hoping you would've got the truck sold. Maybe he got lost in them back roads down there. That's not hard to do. Anyway. We got it done. I may re-plumb the brakes tomorrow if I have enough brake line left on the roll.

I have to get the throttle set up on the C cab too. ....and maybe the passenger side king pin on the '73. Who knows. I guess I'll figure it out when I get to the shop tomorrow.

Did a little work on the rear diff paint. Scrubbing and sanding rear cover etc...this was before the clear. I will most likely put the new rear shocks on tomorrow.

Alan, you stopping by tomorrow?

Nice progress Jeff!

Quick question gang, every part stores lists battery group 35 and 24 as the battery sizes for 73-79 ford trucks. Anyone know which one fits better before I walk in with a tape measure?

good morning Missouri.. gauges and d ifferential look good jeff.. a little paint sure goes a long ways anywhere on these trucks..
no Idea on the battery group for those newer trucks.. my old trucks just get what ever fits the battery box.. hopefully one I already have one laying around.... the battery in ole "ri"p was borrowed from the 46 white "magic bus" fits good and with 900cca spins the 300-6 right over.. better than just leaving it sit around unused anyway

The battery trays are just a half inch too small to put a commercial battery in. So I cut the lip on the end behind the headlight and fold in down so they fit. 950 CCA with 1150 CA will get any engine spinning. The battery tray was rotted in Alice, so I repaired the rust and in the process lengthened the tray so the big battery would fit. Also, MFA has (or at least had) the commercial batteries for $80. They're even cheaper than a normal battery at the parts store. .....cheaper price and more cranking power is where this kid lives, that's for sure!
