2002 ex no low 4x4
Hi, I bough a 2002 EX 7.3 the 4x4 low will not go into low I sent it to the ford dealership they replaced the GEM mod did not fix it then it was the relay it was replaced but did not fix it then they wanted to change the gear motor on the transfer case for $950 I told them no more guessing at it I took my truck home I have a good motor on my 2000 EX I change the motor out but still no go. any thoughts will greatly appreciated thanks

if they went straight for a gem, I would bet its because they couldn't communicate with it. I would suspect wiring if all else has failed. I don't know if the Excursion is like the f150 in this manner, but on my truck when the gem was bad I could take the tcase motor off and manually rotate the tcase to 4x4 high or low. It had arrows that you could line up. Then just rotate the motor and stick it back on. Might try manually putting it in low and see if it commands back out of it.

take a hammer and give that shift solenoid a few love taps
the shift solenoid is on the rear of the t-case. every since Ford introduced those damn things in 1992, they sometimes freeze due to corrosion. a few whacks with a hammer loosens that corrosion and they'll work for a while
I've replaced a few of those for dirt cheap $$$. they're a dime a dozen in junkyards if that ends up being the culprit

Hi so I came home from work on Friday and started on new seals on hubs so I would have at least 4x4 hi so that being said esof works now it will go into 4x4 hi but still no 4x4 low if the transfer case motor was bad why would it drive to put power to the front diff I put in two new hi/low relays in still no low
