WANTED please read! Gas tank parts
Hey guys….ive tried posting this in the wanted section with no luck.
I am in need of a front tank for a 1978 f-150 4x4. 4 speed trans 8 foot bed.
My understanding is that the 78 and 79 models of this configuration had PLASTIC tanks with essentially a formed tin Brace/shield under the bottom and up the inboard side…the mounting straps should hook to the frame rail and be L shaped and go under and up the inboard side of the tank.
I realize that most of these stamped tin shields are rusted away.
That being said there HAS TO BE a usable one someplace! even if its got a few rust holes in it i will patch it as long as the overall piece is usable. and the tanks plastic so there certainly has to be a few of those out there along with the filler hose/neck.
im not concerned about the sending unit.
oh and while Im here…….a 78-79 Jade dash pad CRACK FREE. will Pay!
Some where, someone has the tank and a usable tin piece……Im willing to pay a fair price and WILL PAY SHIPPING.
Please reply here with any leads.
thanks for your time!

You would be better off to get a local Shop to fab one, or do it yourself.
These folks might have a tank? http://raybuck.com/c-203060-gas-tank...ene-tanks.html

I am currently building a cradle for my truck out of 11 gauge (1/8 inch) steel. I've searched high and low for a good replacement with no luck. I will post pics of what I got so far before Super Bowl today. But another problem I have is the tank grommet for the filler hose and vent, I can't find new ones anywhere either. Any help on that will be appreciated.

Well, this is how far I got before the big game. Probably could have gotten a little bit further but the neighbor kid ask me to teach him a little welding and cutting. I am always happy to teach a kid anything I can. I am going to try to reuse about half of the old cradle, only because it is still good metal and it will be faster. But I will make it all stronger and more rust resistant. Just another option for you guys that are always looking for a replacement cradle.

This info was originally typed by me, but when you refer to these old posts typed years ago, some things have changed.
The quantity will probably be different (there may not be any available) and it could also be like this case, the obsolete parts vendor is no longer is business.

Well since I can't edit it, I just put another post in that thread with the updated information, thanks for the updated stuff.
That thread I made is like the other READ FIRST threads, it is there, but does not really get any traffic. There is tons of info in the other read 1st threads....are people scared of "Read FIRST"? lol
