doing injector o rings

hey guys, i'm in the process of removing my injectors to do the o rings, i feel that i have a good grasp on the proper method of purging oil/fuel out as to not hydro lock, but my question is, most write ups i see say to jump the starter relay well the vc's are still unplugged with the glow plugs out, i dont see why i would jump the relay if i can simply turn my key sitting in my seat, correct..? any advice on the process is welcome! thanks guys. cant wait for beers after this.. oh and im also putting all new glow plugs in and going after my fuel pump today too, ive done both before.. not a huge fan of the fuel pump but i hope it solves my stumble at higher rpms if i get on the throttle, i will post my outcome!

The biggest reason it because it's just a lot easier than running around to the seat. That and with the key off, you don't have the PCM and IDM on and trying to run the truck with no injectors in it.

I would hold off on the fuel pump until you've run it with the new orings. It seems to me that bad orings can cause a stumble at higher rpms.

Yes, bad o-rings will definitely cause a stumble around 2500 RPM.

I would agree that holding off on the pump would be a good idea.

Solid Point guys!! I'll fire her up and get some runs in before I go after the pump.. I Think its the original pump at 185k so I may just do it to do it..or keep it in the truck with my 1-1/4 wrench till it pukes out...haha. I'm not a huge fan of side of the road work but I will hold off till after my orings and its fired so I know what fixed my stumble!! Thanks guys

Cookie88, one of our moderators, suggested using Vaseline and oil mixed together to put on the O rings. They slid right in! If it were me I would do the injectors, turn it over with the injectors unplugged, then do the GPs.

I agree with glen but I would also put a swirl of that goop inside the cups.

Well she runs again...took my sweet a** time as to not screw up.. Cleaned my injectors real well then lubed them all up with fresh oil and lubed the new o rings before install all in running pretty good, only got about a 10 min drive in so far and most the white/blue smoke has about cleared up already, I'll get some longer harder drives on it tomorrow and check back in! Thanks guys!! Just cracked my first celebration beer!!haha
